Setting gain when amplifier has bass boost remote.

Recommended Posts

I watched Steve's video about setting the gain, and it makes complete sense to me.

But I was wondering is it different when you plan on using the bass knob for remotely control power? Just want to be able to use the knob without frying anything.

Would I turn the knob to maximum while I set the gain? or set the gain without the knob?

My educated guess is this:

Turn subwoofer level on headunit to maximum, turn bass knob to maximum, then turn the radio's volume up to it's maximum non-clip setting, then set gain on amplifier as Steve did.

unless you have an alpine HU do not turn the sub level all the way up.

set the gain with your remote all the way up.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

I set my gain without the remote plugged in but my remote controls the gain not the bass boost So where ever i set my gain at thats where my bass knob maxes out.

well then that isnt helpful here is it?

ok with the alpine HUs you want to turn the sub level all the way up. reason being, its not boosting. max is like "0" and 0 is like "-15"

So uh... back to the original post...

Turn the subwoofer level on the Alpine unit all the way up AND the remote? So that when it's pushing it's maximum level with the remote "boosting" and the head unit level turned up there will be no clipping... correct?

That way if I'm running, say, Level 5 out of 15 on the head unit, I can still boost for a little more ump when I want it instead of going through the head unit.
