so... We are all into the Car stereo hobbie, and there are some seriously stupid rules and made up shit that makes me laugh.

for starters. the whole deal on what is considered "LEGAL" for SPL runs. give me a fuckin break. your legal score is the Loudest Metered score your vehicle can produce with the mic in front of the b-piller... (I'm sure some ASSHOLE) was at a Stereo Comp and made that rule up so the neighbors wouldnt complain because metering with the doors open and windows down is WAAAAAAY LOUDER, and then though that would be a BRILLIANT way to determine "LEGAL" for an SPL run.

i think its retarded! i'm just wondering what everyone else thinks about this one in particularly,

i know i didnt build my system to roll around with my windows up beating it to the ground....

"Legal" being 6" up and 12" across on the passenger side of your windshield is regarded as the true score because it is DBdrags... DBdrags being the leading format around the world means that if everyone follows the placement guidelines set out, then everyone is on par for comparison reasons...

as for windows open, you start getting loading issues when not sealed up... next time you have an "outlaw" run have a look at the O-cope bit of the termlab, and you'll notice it isn't a nice clean sine wave at all...

see. this is what i'm talking about. there is no way that from one vehicle to the next that having mic on the glass is an even playing field.... ALLL vehicles are not the same. an astro is twice the height of most vehicles, and depending on how much bigger or smaller the vehicle is there is going to be a difference. so that throws the even playing field out the window, especially when you consider a CRX in the picture. having the doors open windows down etc will allow you to turn your vehicle into a true spl machine as it allows you to create true loading. as the vehicle can become the part of the enclosure.

and my vehicle is a clean sinewave... if its not you tune your system in to make sure it is, otherwise you are clipping. either way

the only DBdrag classes that run a power limit are the street stock classes, records can only be set at double points events, at those events your amps can be clamped, infact i've seen our aus cars clamped several times to measure the true output during a burp,

i'm by NO means saying DBdrags is the only way to go, but i DO like that i can compare my scores to those of the rest of the world, knowing that everything is equal and level, if i'm quoting my scores, which are always sealed up DBdrag legal, and i like to know that the guy who's going on about his car being louder than mine, is quoting his scores as DB drag scores...

if it were a simple case of scores infront of B-pillar, then whats to stop you having the sensor directly at the port mouth of a B-pillar flat wall... ?

having it in the position DBdrags dictate makes it even for all cars, all install types

as you said a CRX will score better than most other cars on the dash... but if the mike was elsewhere, soon enough we'd find the best car the meters in that location too...

as for it being a "crybaby rule" perhaps you should stop complaining about it, if your car isn't loud enough sealed up "legal" then stop being a crybaby and make your car louder...

I prefer to know how loud a system is where I listen to it at...at the headrest. I don't drive around with my head in the windshield or in the kick panel. Which is why I only compete in MECA.

i wish we had other formats out here, but we're pretty much stuck with DBdrags...

i'm all for metering wherever you feel, but i just didn't see the point about posting a thread to complain about the different sensor locations used by different formats...?
