DBz
So i'm thinking of upgrading my alternator to a DC power 210 amp, but I was wondering if an extra battery helps keep the steady flow of current going to the amp? or is it useless? I read somewhere that extra batteries are just to play music when the car isn't on, is this true? or do they maintain your voltage up? I have voltage drop and i'm just trying to keep my voltage up. HHR Ed
Batteries are more important than you think. The batteries maintain current and store the energy. An alternator can not supply enough current to your amps, so the alternator charges the batteries which in turn power your amps. After you know what size and qty of amps you are running, you choose the best batteries to power them, then you choose the best alternator to charge those batteries. So the amps get power from the extra batteries right? So Alt >Front Battery > Trunk Battery(s) > to amp? DBz
I plan to get a 180 amp DC Power alt for my 97 civic, run an optima red top in the front, to just one XS power battery, I am going to be running an audiopipe 3k, and for true wattage out of that amp , what size battery would I need? I'm not familiar with XS. HHR Ed
Yeah see thats what I figured. So the amps get power from the extra batteries right? So Alt >Front Battery > Trunk Battery(s) > to amp? Basically yeah, But an alternator is the real source for the electrical energy. but it cant power the amps itself. It can however, supply the energy over time. And thats where the batteries come into play. They take the energy that the alternator supplies and stores it over time. Gathering it all up to be able to supply enough energy to the amps when they demand it. So basically the batteries have to store enough energy to meet the demand of your amps. And the alternator has to supply enough energy to the batteries to keep them charged when they get depleted. Alexdb7
Think of the batteries of sort of a "buffer". And like when you put batteries together...its just like one big battery. the amps dont run off the closest battery...its one large charging system. Just be sure to have fuses on both ends of your long runs, this way if something happens to that wire like a short it will blow the fuse, and NOT burn down your car and or house.
