I have done the big 3 on my car with 1/0 guage but the alternator to battery wire runs to my fuse box then to the battery. I kept that wire and added to it. My question is did I do this right or should I run a straight run directly from the alternator to the battery and bypass the fuse box still leaving the stock wires to the fues box. I don't know if my voltage regulator is inside the alternator or external or if that matters. Thanks. This is a must know for me. I can't find the answer anywhere.

Just add on to the factory wiring, mine goes to the fuse box as well, but I just ran the 1/0 straight from the alt to the battery....its simplest to just leave the factory wiring connected.

Edit: Just really read your post, you are fully correct in the way you did it

when i did my big 3 i just ran a wire str8 from alt to battery but i put a 150amp fuse inline of it just in case, and ground from engine block to chassis, and from battery neg to chassis

i need to run a wire from my battery neg to my alt casing

ied run the wire from alt to battery, most people say no need in fuse, i say fuse everything cause a fuse is always cheaper than a new car :)

anyways good luck

and i was told its best to leave factory wireing cause how much can it hurt with running 1/0 and 4guage from alt?

I ran mine directly from the alt to the battery, and I haven't had any problems.

On your setup since you are on a stock what was it like 70 amp alt, it doesn't even matter if you upgraded that wire or not.

But normally you would want to run direct to the battery and make sure the vehicle stuff is still all powered off the battery which just about every car manufacturer under the sun does it that way so you could have just went straight to the battery and I agree put an inline fuse on it, IF the battery crapped out bad enough to create a short, if you weren't fused then the battery would take the alt out with it, but fused, it would just pop the fuse and open the circuit protecting the alt, this matters ALOT when you have HO alts.

I have a stock 115 amp alt and after I did the big 3 I went from 13.7volts at idle to 14.3 volts....

My stock alt is 110 amps. There is 8 guage wire stock. I have 1/0 from battery negative to chassis and 1/0 from enjine block to chassis and I just want to do the final wire correctly. So what you guys are saying is that I should just run directly to the battery from the alternator ( leaving stock wire inplace to the fuse box ) and that won't affect anything with the computer or voltage regulator? It's a genesis coupe and I don't want to mess it up. Also what size fuse to use and should I put it close to the alt or the battery?

If you are gonna use 1/0 with a high strand count use a 300 amp anl type fuse.

Your upgraded grounds did that, not the alt wire.
