tacomabanga1986 Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 well i kno most if not all hid bulbs hook up the same way and i was wondering since i got another set of hids ecept there h4 low beam, could i get a different set of bulbs and they still work with the ballast? i want to get ddm h1's for my fog lights, but the ballast are maxcar 35w ballasts and i was gunna see if a set of h1 ddm bulbs could work with this since i have nothing else that will fit h4's so i got a pritty much useless $200 set of hids setting in ma closet no critisem on different bulbs for different ballasts cause they kinda work the same way anyways so i dont see why it wont work unless plugs dont let it but i need something cheap and a $12 set of bulbs will work fine for me so will this work? and what color would go good with 8000k but still work for fogs? here are the fogs i got now, there pilot ones from walmart well there more of a driveing light but they worked good for fogs when i had halogen headlights but i want hids Quote here's a link to my system 99 toyota tacoma , 2 mtx 8000 1504's in a sealed downfire , 1000w memphis amp here's a link to my other system my 90 geo prizm test car heres a thread i got of new songs u can dl that are legal = Some Good Bangage/you Can Dl These Free And Legit
Autruche Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 As far as I know your ballast determines the brightness, and you can use any bulb with any ballast, doesn't even matter the wattage of the ballasts. tacomabanga1986 Posted November 17, 2010 Author Report Posted November 17, 2010 haha, monday is time for new bulbs and start on my fog setup again, i'll just wire the ballasts to a switch or wire in a relay that i got so i dont put much strain on the 10amp fuse i had the halogen bulbs hooked to when i had em for fogs, i got a relay kit made for driveing lights so when i crank my truck the lights come on but im gunna just wire it so all i gotta do is flick a switch and it will just get power off battery rather than acc wire would 6000k work decent for "fogs" or should i just match em with my 8000k headlights? im looking for more output rather than looks really but that matters too the fog lights are like 4'' by 2'' or so and pritty much all of em take h1's so ima see how these turn out and if they work good im gunna get a better set of houseings for them to get a lil better output i kinda made a halfass retro fit with my h4's but i just took off that lil metal reflector thing that was on the bulb and stuck it in the light just to see what it would look like and they was bright as shit for how little they where but they got hot as hell in less than 1min so maby a bigger light will help with this, but hids dont get as hot as halogens i dont think so i dont see why they should hurt it Quote here's a link to my system 99 toyota tacoma , 2 mtx 8000 1504's in a sealed downfire , 1000w memphis amp here's a link to my other system my 90 geo prizm test car heres a thread i got of new songs u can dl that are legal = Some Good Bangage/you Can Dl These Free And Legit
Autruche Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 (edited) It depends, do you want your fog lights to cut through the fog or look nice? If you want them to be actual fog lights, then I'd do like 4300K or less to cut through the fog. If you just want them to look nice I think matching your headlight color temp or going higher than that looks nice. Like 8000K headlights and 10s or 12s for fogs look nice, imo. 12s may get you in trouble though, they may be a little too blue, the piggies might not like it. Edit: and HIDs do get hotter than halogens, but that's mainly depending on your light housing. My roommates fog lights were fine with the stock bulbs in them, but they got super hot with HIDs in there, but it was a plastic housing, metal housing ones with actual glass lenses seem to be fine. tacomabanga1986 Posted November 17, 2010 Author Report Posted November 17, 2010 ya mine are metal with glass lens but there small tho but work good i want something that will work with fog better and help me see better in rain and what knot, when i flip to high beam theres not much below the hood thats lit up, thats why i want fogs im looking more twards a 6000k or 5000k, i want a hint of blue but still more of a white to help light up everything, these will need to be fogs and work like them lol ied get 4500 but i think it will want to be more yellow but i like the crystal white with a hint of blue to it so i guess 6000k should work for what i want Quote here's a link to my system 99 toyota tacoma , 2 mtx 8000 1504's in a sealed downfire , 1000w memphis amp here's a link to my other system my 90 geo prizm test car heres a thread i got of new songs u can dl that are legal = Some Good Bangage/you Can Dl These Free And Legit
Autruche Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 (edited) yeah, 6000k would have that nice crystal kind of look. 8000s start to get blue, but 6000s tend to look silver. I have all 6000s in my car and I love them. Oh, and you'll want a relay harness for your fog lights, if you don't already have one. Too much current for just a switch. tacomabanga1986 Posted November 18, 2010 Author Report Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) i got an relay kit thats made so when u start your car the headlights come on but im gunna wire it in with the fogs, im not even gunna try it with just a switch off acc wire, but i dont think a relay pulls that much amps to activate the switch i dont think i guess i'll let this be my early christmas present plus my ballasts have these kinda ends on the plug so it makes it easy to hook up also so i can make it look all clean and what knot, dunno where i can mount the ballast but i'll find a spot, heres a pic of the "fog"s im gunna put the hids in the ones on the bumper^^ but if there not good enough i'll just find some that are bigger n see if i cant retrofit them in some how Edited November 18, 2010 by tacomabanga1986 Quote here's a link to my system 99 toyota tacoma , 2 mtx 8000 1504's in a sealed downfire , 1000w memphis amp here's a link to my other system my 90 geo prizm test car heres a thread i got of new songs u can dl that are legal = Some Good Bangage/you Can Dl These Free And Legit
