It has the factory 160a alternator, 1/0 battery cable for power and ground, 200a breaker, 20 farad cap, 2 Kicker L7 15s, and a Kicker 2500.1. I recently put a Blue Top Optima upfront because the stock battery is garbage. Before the volt meter on the dash would drop to 9.xx volt and the amp would shut off because of lack of power. Now with the Optima it drops to 10.xx volt but the amp doesn't shut off as much. My question is, will adding another Blue top keep the volts from dropping so much? I did a little research and saw that the diesel suburbans bring the same 160a alternator, so I am guessing that it should support a second battery, right? I know I also need to do "the big 3" which is next, including a new box. Thanks for any input, sorry its kind of long.

Guest Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 honest opinion here, but blue tops, even if you got them for cheap, arent an optimal choice. they have a slow discharge and high reserve. you want a fast discharging deep cycle such as a yellow top, sticking with optimas for referencing (not red top because they HATE being deep discharged)
