Mf2racer Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Hi, I was just curious if anyone knew exactly what to use to mount a aftermarket steering wheel in a 1999 chevy silverado? I have noticed Steve has one in his Tahoe so maybe he could chime in. I have searched online and everywhere I go I get told I can't do it because of the air bag. My air bags are shut off anyways because my father has a spinal condition that if we were to get into a crash he has a higher chance of living if there are no Air Bags(he uses my truck quite often. BeatBox Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 dont know much about it, but i "think" after you take it off you would need an adapter and then a steering wheel and thats about it, also a quick release if you wanted that. as far as wiring in the horn not too sure, sry hope that helps. EclipseChris Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 You CAN certainly change the steering wheel, thats what they are made for. But having one without an airbag even there could be an inspection problem. As for doing it, if you never have pulled a steering wheel before then don't do it yourself. It isn't the easiest thing and there are tricks to doing it right. Aslo, the wiring is easy and if you get a good aftermarket wheel it will be easy. Quote i resolve to be a nicer moderator. Mf2racer Posted November 24, 2010 Author Report Posted November 24, 2010 We don't have inspections here in Indiana so that is not a problem. I need help finding the right adapter. I have used Grant on other cars but they don't seem to have a adapter specifically for these series of trucks. Quote
