scope set up why it dont work with rca,s

i tried to get the clipping point from head unit today from the rca s but it wont clip no matter how loud it goes but if i use the speaker wires it does clip can anyone tell me is it safe to use the speaker wire to set my unit up im useing a matco oscope very nice auto ranging

Well, you can take this into consideration. The signal at your RCA's are preamp, the speaker wires are going through an amplifier. So if the RCA's are not showing a clipped signal, that is a good thing. That means you can send a nice unclipped signal to your amplifiers and then adjust your gains on the amplifiers until they are just under clipping. The clipped signal you are seeing on your speaker wires means that whatever is amplifying the signal is clipping.

Are these speaker wires coming out of your Headunit or out of an external amplifier?

yea speaker wires are from head unit

Unless you are using those speaker wires, I wouldn't worry about the clipping on them. As long as the signal on the RCA's is unclipped you are good, just need to adjust the gains on your amplifiers. Put the scope on the speaker wires of the amplifiers (with no speakers connected) and adjust the gains until you see a clipped signal, then back them down until the clipping just goes away.
