tip n tell Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 I have a 95 civic hatch with 2 -240amp 3g alts external adjustable regulator. Would like to know if I can run the 2 off the same regulator. I want both to work in unison. So if I put the 2 stator wires together, and the field wire together, from each alt then to the regulator.... all good right? Oh and it can run 30amps to the field (rotor}.Can this be done? Guest DC Power Rob Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Theoretically, yes, but in practice it doesn't always work as you would think... You have to remember, the regulator has to react REALLY fast to control 2 alternators.. It will either be really jumpy with big voltage spikes, or really laggy trying to catch up with the 2 different alternators.. They wont split the load equally as well as you would think.. Not trying to discourage you from doing it, but 2 alternators with internal regulators will control and cooperate better than 2 alternators on a single regulator..

Guest DC Power Rob Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Run a VCM... /Problem.. External adjustable regulators are good for one thing, burning up alternators, IMHO of course. Im sure many people would say different, but I don't care for them, especially the blue chinese made ones using 40 year old tech.. It's like a blind person throwing gas on a fire, they can't see just how bright it's getting so they keep on a pouring gas on until it's too late..
