Ok First off ive been on here a while learned alot but im always willing to learn more and this is my opportunity.Im redoing my sub stage in my truck its a 2001 ford escape. Now i know about the " its take power to make power" quote so i have already taken care of that issue with mechman currently i have a 270 amp alt being built and will have 3 kinetik batterys 1400 up front and 2 1800s in the rear with a dual power and ground set up for wiring.(Shok industries) i have not decided as to what sub amp or subs i would like to run this is were everybody plays a part. i need help in designing a proper sub stage. currently today i the largest system that ive had to date is 2500 watts. and it was decent but i wanna make the just to around 4500 watts just in the subs stage.(still small power i know but im tryin) the biggest box that i can support without giving up my back set is 27 deep 21.5 high( because i wanna stay below the window line) and 40 wide. Most importantly i dont care about NUMBERS due to the fact i dont compete but i would like this build do displace alot of air. i know there are alot more in-outs to doing this than prob what i have described but it a question arises i will do my best to get an answer to you so you guys can give an answer to me. currently i dont really know what to expect cost wise but i know im not gonna drop 5k on it right now cuz im only 23 and still with working 2 jobs and going to college cash is hard to come by. so with in reason please come with ideas of what i need to do for this idea to successful. Thanks in advance

he wouldnt be the first to say they did a 167 with a system like that (one that clearly DOESNT), but i have to say, he didnt beat me anywhere, ive never competed against the guy. If he thinks his does a 167, mine would probably put him in a coma. :hairtrick:

Are you looking for amp and sub suggestions? What's the budget? I know you said you don't wanna drop 5k, but we need a solid budget.

yea basically.. and just ideas for the enclosure or anything that i need to make this successful. b/c once its done its gonna be done for a while and as far as budget goes lets say 1500 dollars cuz like i said at the most i can support about 5500 watts and thats prob with big voltage dips

he wouldnt be the first to say they did a 167 with a system like that (one that clearly DOESNT), but i have to say, he didnt beat me anywhere, ive never competed against the guy. If he thinks his does a 167, mine would probably put him in a coma. :hairtrick:

and i know trial and error is a big part of audio. i realize that but im just looking for ideas to try.. just say if you were in my position and you knew more about the subject what would you do..

As for enclosure-sub up, port back (against firing towards hatch)

As for the budget- is that for subs and amps? If so, check out the Audioque AQ3500D.1. Its rated at 4300wrms at 1 ohm, but its been clamped to do a little bit more. The amp was $750 shipped last time I checked. That leaves you with $750 left. You have room for 2 15s or 4 12s (if the box is ported)

Edit: I am in your position. I'm in high school and don't have a ton of money to throw into car audio. I have a 2003 Mazda Tribute too (very similar body as Escape)

So is 1500 for the subs and amps???

If so I would do a pair of 15" AQ HDC3's on an AQ3500, which would be a total of about 1350 shipped......

That would work best with the space and budget you have

Edit: The box I came up with using the specs you listed is

Height- 21.5

Width- 40

Depth- 27

Port is 3" tall, 38.5"Wide(the entire bottom of box minus wood thickness) and 23" Long

Gives you a port area of 13.7" of port per cube, tuned to 34Hz

This gives you a space of 8.39 cubes after sub and bracing displacement(.25 for bracing)

The port height to width ratio is 1:8. The OP would need a 5" high port if he wanted the port as wide as the box, but that'd completely throw tuning off.

The ports width should be 8x its height. For example a 4inch high port should be about 32 inches wide, a 4.5 inch high port should be 36 inches wide, etc
