CGienapp1 Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Alright I have a few questions.. I have a Kenwood KDC-X794 and just purchased an MTX TE404. How does setting the crossovers in my HU affect my amp? I'm pretty sure my HU is much more precise than the amp is. Open for ALL suggestions and advice on this. Also, while I'm at it..my HU's rated at 22x4 RMS @ 4ohm..will wiring a HU @ 2ohm harm it? Reason I ask is because I'm going to run my door speakers off my amp but am also adding some components and plan to make use of my bare HU wires to power these. When I wire the components up, the final ohm rating will be 2.
n8ball2013 Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 do not wire a head unit at two ohm. how are you going to get a two ohm load out of a component set unless its a component The head unit is used to cut off frequency to the amp. If you set your high pass crossover at say 100 hz anything below that will not be sent to the amp. you can do the same thing at the amp alot of people will say the amp is better to tune some say head unit and some say add a real processor into the mix. That's what I thought too on the RCA. Your RCAs will only carry what you want them to. Maybe I should leave the amp crossover on FULL and just completely use the HU? And I end up with 2 ohm because each is speaker is 4 ohm. I called sonicelectronics on the HU and they said no no it will stay at 4 ohm beacause the speakers are single voice coil. But it shouldn't matter now anyways since I have the amp. My door speakers are 50w RMS and the amp does 65w RMS x4. My plan is to add the components to my HU which puts out 22wx4 RMS. I'll put the woofers on their own wires in the front and the tweeters on their own wires as well so I'll be putting 44w on each component. Thanks..

I had a couple speakers runnin off the 4chan amp and just ran the RCA from my mono block. When I put my new HU I had to run 3 sets of RCA.lol The eXcelon has x-over built in so this was RCA 101 for me.ha
