Rell's Door panel build

Been playing around with some measurements for the 10in rings, set the depth to just take off a little wood for a visual. I think I will run with it.

Few weeks ago I got one of the back doors hung up. Aligned everything and got the holes drilled for the key slots for the door panel clips

Gotta beef those slots up a bit with some chop mat, then they will be good to go. Still have to do the other 3 doors.

moar! this is coming out really sick, i love it

Legal TL scores145.6 on the dash sealed up in the low 40hz area with the port out145.5 on the dash sealed up @30hz with the port inless then 1k clamped on a 3.5k!

Why would you EVER WANT flex?
huh?...flex is what can make the lows lower and more air being pushed correct?

Gotta go buy new bit tonight, finish up the rings tomorrow. Then try and get all the doors up on the car hopefully, to get the key slots made. After that its time for some glassing. :yahoo: And move onto the arm rest.

i've had to use those diablo bits for work before, man, they don't hold up to a bosch bit, try ordering your next bits online, theyll do much better, but diablo do much better on mdf than they do on plywood

Funny cause the bit I used today for cutting the rings is a bosch bit. This is the second one I broke. -_-

And yes to those thinking, I do go at a nice steady pace, in the correct cutting direction and I make multiple passes so I make sure I don't over work the bit.

I will be making a order on some quality bits soon, maybe when there is a nice sale on one of these sites.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just to update, some of my main priorities have been on how I will construct my arm rests, and what kinda window switches/door locks etc I will run with.

Currently my car has the typical 70's 80's etc type of style window/door lock switches like these.

Which I don't really think will fit the over all look of the doors when done.

These are the door pulls I will be using

Lokar IDP-2003 Lokar Billet Arm Rest Door Pulls

And these are the door handles I'm hoping to have success installing.

Lokar IDH-2001 Lokar Oval Billet Interior Door Handles

Other wise it looks like I might have to either scrap this build or install door popers and eliminate the door handles altogether(which I do not want to do)

Anyone here have any experience installing these kind of door handles before?

I'm looking into using some kind of Billet made/polished chrome looking window and door lock switches to run with so they match with the Lokar door pulls and door handles.

Been looking at these.

However I don't like how the Driver door(4 switch panel) looks like this.

Horizontal bezel for the switches.

I would like it to be a vertical bezel to place the switches in.

So if I go with those I will have to do some research and see who has a cnc machine to produce me a nice looking bezel for the switches. Or if the company that sells the kit can do it. Doubt it though.

I have an idea where I will mount a bracket onto the doors. Most likely hidden under the arm rest where I can add a couple bolts to aid in helping to support all the weight. That way its not just all up to the door panel clips.

There is also a slight issue with mounting the door panels onto the doors. And I don't even want to imagine how annoying it would be to try and get them mounted once I get to glassing and speakers are in.

Since the top metal piece of the door panel hooks over and onto the doors its a little harder to get them on with the extended door panel clips that I thought would be better.

So I'm thinking about splitting the doors here at the red line.

I would first mount on the bottom half of the doors then the top. And have them join together somehow and look as clean as possible.

Something like this. Dark and light grey parts is the 1/2in trim piece I made to go around the doors.
