osamio
This is hard to explain, but here goes.. I just installed an equalizer/preamp... I used high level inputs on it, and RCA output to my soundstream amp... I attached a DMM to the amp, set the gains, played a few test tones, seemed good to go, Then i go to connect the subs to the amp, and as soon as i touched the second speaker wire, the subs SLAMMED at there was a large spark at the terminal.. i pulled the wire away like instantly, took out the DMM and touched it to the amp output, there was NOTHING. it seemed fine, i pulled out the RCA going into the amp, and tried attaching the subs again, and it was fine, no spark, no output from the subs. So, i figure there is some signal coming from the equalizer, but why not when the DMM was connected? only the when the subs were connected did this signal or whatever u want to call it come through the amp... I hope i explained this well enough for someone to maybe guess what's wrong? osamio
might have grounded out something? are your rcas ran along the power wire? They run close to eachother at the very end of the run, but i don't see anywhere it could be shorting out... and why wouldn't the same thing happen when the DMM was on the amp? it was only when i tried to hook up the subs, so i figured maybe the speaker wire was shorting to power or ground somehow but i didn't see anything... osamio
power light on? protect light on? fuses good? Fuses are good, I honestly can't check if it protects, the only way to make it happen is by connecting the subs, but i don't want to do it because i can tell it's WELL over their rating... if i leave it on long enough to check i'm gonna blow the subs or the amp or both. Guest
are the subs shorting out somewhere? could be a loose speaker wire or even a single strand touching the opposite polarity.
bumonskateboard6
Don't hook up subs with the car on.... Check your subs if you feel the power is way over their limit. osamio
are the subs shorting out somewhere? could be a loose speaker wire or even a single strand touching the opposite polarity. I'll have to go check, I did check the impedance and it read fine, there was no short at the terminals, does that mean i need to check at the terminals on the subs? or should reading a normal impedance indicate that there are no shorts? osamio
Don't hook up subs with the car on.... Check your subs if you feel the power is way over their limit. Would it matter if the car was on? if you are saying i should hook the subs up with the car off then turn it on, i'm pretty sure i'll see the same result... the amp was on, but there was definetly no music playing. and what do u mean check the subs? they didn't blow, but they will if i continue to do it.
