Losing connection after installing graphics card

Recommended Posts

Okay so I upgraded my monitor and graphics card today. Put in a nvidia geforce gts450 and 23" acer monitor. I uninstalled the old graphics drivers (nvidia geforce 8400gt) and installed the new drivers for the 450. Turned up the graphics in Black Ops to 1920x1080, now after I load a server it immediately pulls of the message "Lost connection to host" with any server I go into. What is causing this? I know I didn't uninstall any network programs. Also, I still cannot connect to the servers if i turn down the graphics.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

May not be a graphics issue, it may just be a separate problem.

What power supply do you have also.

Try updating your internet adapters drivers or reinstalling them.

Is your powersupply big enough to support that graphics card? Have you maybe unplugged something when you were changing it?

Hmmm interesting point with the power supply, because the graphics card requires 2 power plug ins. Never thought of that, Ouch  only 330w. Probably my problem, time to go to frys and get a 600+ supply. Weird that I have never had a problem with this power supply, and I've run COD 1,2,4,5 - Starcraft 2 - and Warcraft with no problems.

Oh and no i didn't unplug anything, good suggestion though

Yeah I would get a 550-650w PSU. Corsair, antec, cooler master, thermaltake are all good brands.

If it is the onboard ethernet the powers supply may not be able to power everything correctly.

You want my number in case you run into problems?

If its a PCI card then yeah the PCI lane may not be getting the juice it needs.

Problem fixed. After bugging around with the internet card I uninstalled the graphics drivers and reinstalled fresh ones from the site.

All's working great now.
