Subs getting warm

I might have read it wrong, but say my preamp voltage is 5v would i set it to 5 on my amp?

Yes, that will give you 100% sub output at 100% head unit volume. BUT seeing as it is u only use %50-60 of your HU volume.. I would set the gain one notch higher, that is, 4 volts. BUT that's just me, people may argue etc... Mostly, if you ever hear distortion, or ur subs skip, then turn it back down a bit. and if you DO set ur gain around 4 volts, remember NOT to crank the volume on your HU past the 50-60% mark. All of this is what I personally would do... everyone will have different opinions.

If your head unit is putting out 5 volts, gain would be 5. if your head unit puts out 4 volts, gain would be 4. Head unit 3 volts, gain 3 volts... Etc..

SO if our HU puts out 5 volts, your gain should be set to 5 volts.

You do realize that that HU probably doesn't put out 5v unless maxed. ....

Well i dont plan on listening to it maxxed out thats for sure. I just saw a thing on the spcifications online that said Expandability Options:

* 3 Sets of 5V preamp outputs (front, rear, and subwoofer)

Bass boost 0, LPF 8O, Infrasonic filter 2hz below tuning.

^ I agree. It's not the BEST way to do it, but it's the easiest for you without a DMM. and it'll work. Just keep in mind, if you EVER hear distortion, back it down a bit. too much of that will damage your subs.

Also, I think you were closer to the correct number earlier when you said it's RCA pre-amp was 2 volts. but then you said 5 so i just went with it. I'd check just oneeee more time. make sure you have the right voltage in mind. Then again, if your just going to do it by ear, then it doesn't matter too much.

Yea ill go to the audio store and see if i can borrow it so it will be easier! To check the impedance on the subs do i put the DMM in the speaker terminals?
