Ford302Redneck Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 I honestly wouldn't use that wire. Just cause it was gave to you, doesn't mean you have to use it. Quote
Babyjuice Posted February 1, 2011 Author Report Posted February 1, 2011 Why wouldn't you use it? Quote BABYJUICE
Red4DrPos Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) I agree with Ford302Redneck. That wire is THHN. Its coating is no where near thick enough and most likely its rated at 90c or 194f in dry conditions. In wet conditions its rated at 75c or 167f. Its mainly used for commercial and some residential purposes. Id stay away from the wire for the big 3, i wouldnt trust it. Edited February 1, 2011 by Red4DrPos Quote
Babyjuice Posted February 1, 2011 Author Report Posted February 1, 2011 Ah I see then...so then I should get some true audio wire? Quote BABYJUICE
Red4DrPos Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 That is recommended by me, i know from experience that THHN is easy to nick. But you could get some welding wire, I just ordered some for my truck and the 1/0 was decently cheap from weldingsupply.com Quote
fritosaregood Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 yea, just save up and get some 0 gauge, then you wont have to upgrade to other wire if you upgrade power. that 4 gauge you have now probably isnt too flexible either. Ford302Redneck Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) It doesn't have to be audio wire, but it has to be similar. Like posted welding wire works great. I personally like Knukonceptz, I've had good luck with anything I've got from them and reasonable priced. I defiantly would get 1/0+. Edited February 1, 2011 by Ford302Redneck Quote
Babyjuice Posted February 1, 2011 Author Report Posted February 1, 2011 I'm looking them up right now...also this doesn't go with this topic but if I wanted to run new front speakers in my truck(they're 6x8s) without buying a new amp what kind should I get and would the amp in my pioneer 3100dvd be good enough? Quote BABYJUICE
Ford302Redneck Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 I'd honest buy 6.5s and make adapters. Running mids off headunit power isn't "bad", you just won't get the full potential out of them. Go with a component set, then add a amp later. You can find plenty for ~100, that have good quality.
