Need 2 - SA-8s for 01 Trans Am.. Questions and enclosure options

Recommended Posts

I have a single sa-8 in the trunk of my civic right now. It is unbelievable how much sound and movement I get out of it. Shakes the sunroof even! My box is .75 cubes (after displacement). 2 3“ Aero ports tuned around 35. The problem with the aeros is that they are each 25“ long. Tough to have a tiny little box with crazy long pipes sticking out of it. For compact I would think slot port might be easier.

Yea I have no room to do aeros, from what I can see, so slot port it is.. The problem is, when I plot out the box with the Torres tuning calculator, my port ratio is 1:7.67, which seems high?

port area is 17.25, port area per foot is 17.08. and thats exactly .95 cubic feet net after sub displacement.. Is that to big of an enclosure?

I don't think it's grossly oversized. Just be careful on the lows. Set the subsonic. As far as ratio, it isn't the most efficient, but what are you going to do? Sacrifices must be made when working with limited space.

Several systems, several vehicles. Always changing!

OK.. Im trying to get the size down a bit without making the ratio worse or the port area much larger. What did you mean "what am I going to do"? As far as music selection?

Here s the current design.. should be .76 cubic feet after sub displacement

I just meant there's not a lot you can do about the port ratio. It is what it is. To make it more acceptable would be well out of your sizing limits. I'm sure it will sound great!

I wouldn't go with that much port area for a single 8, remember more port generally lowers your bandwidth, since you're not chasing numbers i'd go a little lower to keep it as musical as possible.

What should my port area, and port area per foot be at ? 12-14?

12-14 is a good general rule of thumb.
