Ok, I just finished fiberglassing the inside of my wall/sub enclosure, and will be starting on my first set of pillar pods in the next couple of weeks. So I understand the making of the frame for a 4" component set, and how to stretch the material and paint it with resin. Questions: Whats best for gluing/attaching the stretched material to the plastic pillar, and the wood ring? Do you guys use matte/cloth strips in your pillar pods, or just resin, then go over it with body filler? What about that body filler that has fiberglass in it? Should I stay away from that? Start by getting in that space with the hatch closed and getting measurements of exactly what you have to work with. The space available will help you decide if an 18" sub box will fit. Keep in mind, like my PT, the space down by the floor is huge, it's up by the rear roof/window, where it starts to get tight.

You know what the problem is, they all went out and bought that Scosche db meter at walmart, pegged the sucker at 177db or whatever it lies, and now they think they are on top of the world! 120 amp alternator, problem is the PCM controls voltage internal, so I guess thats the limit. I have a friend with a PT and he has a second battery in his, Kinetik HC800 I think, so a second battery is ok, but not a high output alternator. My original goal was 1k watts for subs and 400 for mids/highs. So another 1100.2 would get me there, but the idea of only running 2 amplifiers is always nice. It's hard dealing with the Crunch manuals, but Mike@maxxsonics said it is in line with the competitors and the marketing guys did it. Anyway you can't beat them for as low as they cost! I have had my Hifonics Zeus 400 watt mono amp for 6 years and 3 different cars, and it is like brand new, it really pounds, but I figured it was time for something new. I may sacrifice some low end anyway, to squeeze em all in, but I know it's gonna get lower than what I have in there now, and with what I listen to, it should be fine. Steve said I can post some pics of the wall when I get started, so I will. Thanks again to everyone for the advice.

No, even if I had more airspace for them, sealed boxes still roll off in the low to mid 40's. Not worried because I currently have the sealed box which rolls off -3db at 46 hz, so I figure 38 is significantly lower than 46, but then again 33 is significantly lower than 38. I figure I am now at the 'build it and see what happens point'. I can always test it and change the port if needed. I see a lot of people on the maxxsonics forums that run them 36 and 37 hz and they seem to be happy, so 38 can't be to bad. Just wanted to hear some real world experiences form people here with that tuning.

yep, had a Hifonics Zeus 400w x1 mono amp, bought a new 1100.2 thought it benched 1100 watts, found out only ~550-600 if I'm lucky, so I will need either another one, or maybe a one of their GP amps with more watts, PT Cruisers are limited electrical, so I really don't want to get to crazy with power. I only have 2 cu ft internal per sub, and thats without port, Mike from Maxxsonics said no way to get below 38 hz tune with only 2.0 cu ft, and said the 12" sq per cu ft rule won't work to help me any with this sub. Steve said try to get it to 35 hz, but I don't know how. I am sticking to Hifonics port specs to play it safe. I have been all over, up and down, back and forth, and I REALLY want 8 12"s, I know if I went with less subs I could tune lower, but figure if 38 is liveable, I will be happy, hell it's still 8 lower than my sealed dropoff point of 46!, and I'm ok with that, so 38 has to be better for the low stuff, but not like a 30 hz tune!

Just the regular ones, HFI12D4, found a nice deal on them, bought 4, and figured why not get 4 more! Not an SPL sub by any means, but I'm a long time Hifonics fan, and run their amps, too, will need another for the next 4 subs though.

Ok, I have been postin and searchin and even PM'ed a few here (thanks to everyone for all the responses) and when all is said and done, I will not be able to tune my planned wall below 38 hz. So I just want to know what others with similar tune think after they have had their box/wall for a while? Is it decent for a daily driver, no SPL competitions? I have been doing this for 15 yrs and have had mostly 15"s in sealed boxes. My current box is sealed with 4 12"s and drops off at 46 hz. Steve The Man advised me to try to get it down to 35, but I just can't, cause I WANT 8 subs in there! And I don't want to PM him with all my pestering questions . Hopefully he's not lookin! So how bad is a 38 hz tune for a daily driver, 8 12"s, low powered by SMD standards, like 1K to 1500 watts running them all? I listen to mostly modern rock, but you guys have turned me on to Jeezy and Keak da Sneak, and all the other loud songs, so I have to have a little low end for those songs too. **EDIT: it's all Hifonics subs and power, nothing special.

You guys laugh, but the first real extreme stereo I ever got to hear from inside was a Jeep Wrangler with 4 RF Power 1000s playing through 4 RF 18"s and 4 eights, and some other RF amps/mids/highs.....it happened to be playing some George Strait song, and it was so f***in loud, I had to get out of the passenger seat rather quickly. So I guess Country music can get really loud, too, I just don't listen to it. Maybe your neighbors would approve.

Yeah, I just read that one, and combined it with the statement from Steve that he has built many a box with just the 2"x2" wood strips inside, and stopped there. Since my PT is not a competition car, I may just skip them altogether, may be more beneficial for me to spend my time on bracing and strengthening the walls instead.

Ok, I can't resin them like Steve does, as my wall is being built in car. So I will look into either wood or sheet metal, whichever is cheaper at Lowes!

Along these lines, what is the gray coating that Steve used in the Civic...is it just bondo?

Thanks, I plan to use 2"x2" wood along all the inside edges, then I guess I'll try fiberglass matte and resin over that to get the 45. If needed, I can bondo over the fiberglass then sand it to get it all smooth?

Ok, I tried the search, but have only found limited info on the 45 degree corners. I have seen Steves resin corners, and his metal ones in the Civic, and pics of wooden ones, too. Is there anything wrong with just fiberglassing them with the rest of the inside of the box??

You should definately be able to hear tweeters if you put your ear up next to them, cymbal crashes are the most obvious. Maybe doube check the wiring from the crossover to the tweeter?

I have a Thrush welded muffler on my PT Cruiser, it looks like a flowmaster, but is not as loud, its a really nice sound for smaller engines, kinda sounds the same as a V8 pickup when they still have their stock mufflers, though my PT is a 4 cyl so your 6 might be a little louder. You can get em at Summit for cheap.

Through your colleges' campus bookstore. If your on a tight budget, I am on my second Gateway laptop, previous one lasted me 7 years with no problems at all. You can always upgrade later on.
