  1. Would it be a bad idea to do the subs up, port up? Or is it better firing to the rear in this case? Also, I've been fooling around with sub box pro, and I came up with this box design. Except the subs would be up top firing towards the roof, and they would be mounted diagonally. See what you think. I just put the subs in the calculation so it would counter in the space they will take up. And this program doesnt give the option to mount the subs up or change the location of the port. Also, id be doing triple or 4 baffles.
  2. Ok, thank you for explaining that more in depth. So, im running a 64ah lithium headway bank right now, yellow top under the hood, and an xs power super capacitor from the headway to my amp. Im currently running a marts digital 8k. I know that's not ideal for subs this nice, but it's what I have for the moment until I can get my new alternator in and more lithium. So I'm thinking I will go woth the intune box design that I posted for now and see how it holds up. When I get more power I may switch them to single boxes.
  3. I have a question for anyome who can help. I just ordered 2 sundown zv6 18" subs. My first big boy subs. I know they each call for 7 cubic ft, with 112 cubic inches of port area @ 32 hertz. So if im making a dual 18 box, instead of single boxes, do I need 14 cubes, 224 cubic inches of port? Or would it be better to go like 12-13 cubic ft and a little less port area since they are in the same box? Also, would it be better to run single boxes? Or a dual? I have an suv so space isn't an issue, and I am going for spl/DB scores. Anyone have any opinions feel free to chime in please. Thanks for any input. Also, I have been looking at a box design by intune designs, anyone ever used it or seen the design they have? Thanks guys. I added a photo of the design im looking at.
  4. My question is, what vehicle has the most readily available High Output alternator? Im looking to buy another vehicle, preferably an SUV or hatchback. I just want something that i can find a H/O alternator for very easily, and one that has a good top/easyish mount location on the vehicle so i can change it myself. Right now i have a 2006 toyota tundra double cab, and it is a nightmare trying to find an alt for it that is compatible and ive pretty much given up. Ive also been told that these trucks have an internal voltage regulator so even if i do find one and can get it put on, it still wont allow me to use its full potential. Also, the alts on these trucks are a nightmare to get to. You have to take a ton of parts off. Anyways, my initial thought is getting a honda civic, or a chevy tahoe. I dont know anything about chevy and if they are reliable. Anyways, thanks guys, hope i can narrow it down soon. Im ready to get something and start a whole new build/vehicle.
  5. Ok, so i got the sundown U 15s in the xfl box tonight. I played them some and they sound really clean but not as low. I think its definitely too much port area for them. It is 120 inches of port. I believe the U 15s call for 48 per sub at about 3 cubic ft. But they do sound good. They do max out pretty quick tho. I think the 8 cubic ft is a little much but i believe its mainly the port area that is off. So.... i think my final thoughts are going to be 6.5 cubic ft, 94 inches of port area, tuned to 33-34 hertz. I believe sundown calls for 35 on the U series so ima go in-between at hang about 33-34. We will see. But ima rock them in this xfl box for a few days and get the feel of them. The spiders are still stiff too because they are pretty new. So that will make a difference too right? After they are broken in they will sound different. Anyways, im definitely doing the subs forward, port to the side. Any thoughts on the port? What port style should i go with? Regular slot port? Aero port? square port? Octoport? And if i do the aero port, should i do 2 x 8" tubes? Or like 3 x 6" tubes? Im leaning towards a straight slot port
  6. Good idea. I havent had a box subs forward port side yet in the trucj. I think that might be ideal. Thats what im going to try. Thanks joe x. I have however had subs forward and port up and that still did roof flex but i had way harder hits to the fromt seats from the subs. It sounded really good. But thats definitely what im going with now. I'll post oics after i complete it so you guys can check it out. And i am going to try them in the xfl box just to get an idea. I think i need to be more around 6.5-7 cubes and around 34 hertz. About 100 inches of port area.
  7. Thanks, i was thinking my box was a little big for the sundowns. I know its oversized for the xfl as well. But i usually go about 10-20% larger than recomended by the manufacturer. I find that i can get a little lower that way, but also use less power to do so. But i want to get the most i can out of the sundowns so i think im going to try a new build. Im thinking port in the middle facing front seats, and subs up. Although, subs up tend to make my roof do that crazy metal wobbling sound that i hate. Maybe its time to build a birchwood roof. Lol Anyways, im thinking subs up port center facing forward, 7 cubic ft tuned to 32 hertz. Also i have a nice 8" aero port just sitting around. Could u use that for the 2 sundown 15s? Or would it need a larger aero? It seems like it would be enough. I will include a pic of my sundown U 12s and the box they are in. Im thinking if doing an exact replica of that box but for 15s. The one my 12s are in is 4 cubic ft tuned to 32
  8. Whats up bass heads. I recently got a pair of sundown U series 15s, dual 2 ohm. I have a 2006 double cab toyota tundra and obviously, 1st thing i did was took my back seats completely out. Lol. Im looking for box recomendations for these 2 sundown U 15s. I currently have 2 american bass xfl 15s in a 8 cubic box tuned to 32 hertz. Subs up port facing driverside door. Port area is 120 cubic inches. Huge port! They absolutely slam. But im taking them out and installing these sundowns. Could i just drop them in this same box? This is everything i am installing this week- 1 Deaf bonce apocalypse AAK 4000.1 amp 2 sundown U series 15s 1 pioneer DEH-S6220BS head unit 2 DS18 neo pro 6.5 loudspeakers 4 memphis audio 6.5 in the doors 1 Deaf Bonce Apocalypse 1000 watt 2 channel amp For the ds 18 6.5s I already have- 1 brand new agm under the hood 1 brand new yellow top optima inside 1 Xs power 630 farad super cap All 0 gauge ofc and 10 gauge ofc for subs and 14 ofc for speakers. HO alt coming soon. Im currently running the xfl 15s and a taramps md 8k. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks guys.
  9. Thanks Joe, i will get some of this done today after work and get back with you. I was thinking the same thing about the power, it should be plenty enough. I leave my hi pass and low pass all the way off tho. Maybe this is where im messing up too. I'll get back with you soon. Thanks Oh and i never use the bass boost Also, i am getting my new deaf bonce aak 4000 in today as well so maybe the new amp will help
  10. Hey guys, so i bought a brand new 10" sundown Zv5 dual 2 ohm. Ok, i have a taramps md 8k 2ohm stable amp. It is also brand new. I have everything hooked up as it should be, And i have built 3 different boxes for this sub ranging from 1.5 cubic ft- 2 cubic ft. Sundowns recomendations on the port is what i went with. Ok, so i have it wired at 4 ohms because ny amp isnt 1 ohm stable. When i get it turned up enough for it to begin moving decently, not even half power, it starts making a popping noise. Ive checked the coils and pressed in on the cone, no rubbing noise of scraping at all. It seems perfectly fine. What is going on here? Any help much appreciated. Im so fruatrated im ready to sell the sub and take a loss. Idl what is wrong. The sub is brand new. Also, when i built the boxes to sundowns specs i get tons of port noise on all of them. I made the port bigger and smaller and same thing. Didnt help. Is it because i am running at 4 ohm? I want to add, that i run 2 american bass xfl 15s on this same setup and they do just fine. I have them ran at 2 ohms tho. Power wise i have a new agm under the hood, a yellow top battery inside, and a xs power 630 farad super cap, all 0 gauge wire ofc. I know i meed an alternator but i only run the amp at about 3/4 and my voltage never drops below 13. Help please!
