  1. Personally, Im wanting to get an SA8v2. I want to try it sealed, ported, different sizes and tunings, and 4th order, different volumes and tunings. Why 4th order....never tried it, always been curious about them, so i wanna try one, just cuz i wanna experiment with something new.
  2. Is that actually bad? If you have the gain down it shouldnt be a problem... should it? yes, amps dont like having power and searching for signal to put out that just isnt there, i dont know the reasoning behind it, but i know they really dont like it. it's kinda like having the microwave on without food in there. It's bad because it has nowhere to transfer the power to. engergy in = engergy out makes perfect sense.

  4. even if he wore, he drops worse than i do...and his electrical is much better than mine...in theory....test your batteries, make sure they are holding a charge. Make sure your alt is doing its job...thats all i can really think of....check all your connections...it sounds like you got a bad connection somewhere, i mean, i don't see why your system drops worse than mine, i get down to 12.9 at full tilt at idle.
  5. gotcha, so you already have a good amount of toys in the rear, just want some more control up front/an SQ oriented source unit? I can say this, the 9887 is very bright in comparison to other HUs. Im glad i have silk dome tweeters, i think aluminum would be a bit too harsh.
  6. That was already the plan. I wanna go with one of these cuz I'm bored with my stereo, i don't care if 1 8 won't be as loud as 2 12s, i more just want to have something i can experiment with, and 1 quality 8 leaves lots of room for that, lol. LMK how that 4th order sounds.
  7. if all the grounds have different potentials, yes, you can have too many grounds. But as long as everything is grounded to the same spot, it shouldn't be an issue. I don't know that the grounds are your issue, is your alt doing what its supposed to? Are your batteries holding their charge? I can't believe that amp strains your system that much harder than mine. Sure, I'm running at 2 ohms, but i ONLY have a STOCK 120A alt, and HC1400 under my hood, thats all my electrical consists of. The weekend after the one coming up I'm ordering my shit for the big 3 finally. So i don't even have that done. Sounds like you definitely have some sort of problem. have you tried a different amp?
  8. i think the 9887 went out of production a while ago, i know the 880prs did. the 80prs looks nice. Who wouldn't like a mcintosh? If you could afford that, you could get the DEH-P99 though...which is like 1200.....
  9. make sure you turn off the power IC i know that option you have to turn the HU off, hold the menu button and get into some other menu. No reason to have the internal amp running if you don't use it.
  10. Idk, i have the BRZ1700, which is the same thing IIRC (or close enough) and mine did that a few times till it went into protect permanently and i had to send it back. Im ASSUMING its voltage drop, IT said it was a short on the board when i called them, so I'm assuming it was caused by low voltage. Are all your connections tight? Sounds like with your electrical your voltage should drop at all let alone to 12.5, i only drop to 12.9 at idle with just a HC1400 under the hood and no big 3, just 1 run of 1/0 for my positive power cable.
  11. oh man, after looking at that, i kinda want one now...just so i can run my iPod to it and have bluetooth. My town is now all construction zones, as are a lot of the highways around here, and theres no talking on the phone in a work zone.
  12. I'm extremely happy with it. Had it in for 3 years now, not a single problem. The newer pioneers may have some more modern luxuries built in. I could have fitted a double din in my dash no problems. But i wanted the features of the 9887.
  13. Daily driver in a trunk car without folding seats or an armrest hole, not an SPL vehicle.
  14. i can dig that, trust me. Even though i wasn't around when those cars were, i have a soft spot for them. Im a car guy in general... If i had a good sounding car, i might not even use the stereo. I got to drive a modded 911 turbo around road america, turned the stereo off before i put the car in gear, lol. Some cars, i enjoy the sound of the car more. When i roll up next to a super bee or a chevelle or an old camaro, i shut my stereo off to hear the car. Its your car, do what you want, i agree with that, but if it were my car, even for a cruiser, id put 8s in it if anything...or just a SQ install, and enjoy the sound of the car itself. My lancer on the other hand, sounds like a fucking windup toy, so i need the bass.
  15. If you're going to use that reasoning, why put any type of subs in any car, and especially a second alt that will most certainly decrease fuel economy? but this isn't any car, this is a car that isn't that easy to find in nice condition anymore if its a chevelle
  16. why do you want a graphic EQ? 5 band parametric>7 Band graphic. I don't remember how to switch between graphic and parametric, i think you have to go into the menu by holding down that little black button, audio, then its an option in there, if not, it may be one of the ones you have to set with the HU off. I don't know why you would want to go graphic when you can do parametric though, parametric EQs are way better....
  17. double dins are overrated, till i find one that has all the functions of my 9887, ill put it in, till then, not a chance. I like being able to run active off the HU.
  18. Price range? I love my CDA-9887. Pioneer, i forget the model numbers, ones like DEH-P99 the other is 880 or something. Ill look more and get back. Pioneer DEH-80, 880PRS are also good ones that don't cost 1k....
  19. Still, why weigh down the car? Why not a nice light weight enclosure in the trunk, a few 8s maybe?
  20. don't put a big system in a chevelle, please....dont ruin the car....they are so rare in nice condition as it is, don't go and fill it full of subs...do a sound quality instal! If i ever get a nice classic, i wouldn't ruin it with a big system personally. If you wanna run a big system, just get an old suburban or something....
  21. Im looking into the SA8 v2. Im currently running 2 12s in my trunk, and for the time being, i would like to get 1 8 and see what i can get out of it, then eventually go to 2 8s. I just love the idea of getting loud off 8s. I have been toying with a 4th order design. What would be some good specs for a 4th order for one of these little guys? If i get one, i plan on trying it in a number of enclosures, trying to see what works best and what i like most. I kinda want to get one of these to run my own little audio experiments with. But i don't know a lot about 4th orders, but i worked up a design for a single one of these. Comes down to Sealed: 0.6 cubes Ported: 1.4 cubes tuned to 45-46Hz and 31sq in of port area (always heard run lots of port with 4th orders) I have a LOT more room in my trunk than this. Im pretty sure i could run a pair of these in a 4th order if i wanted, i think i have enough space. Basically, i want to start with one of these, and experiment with different enclosures over time. But i want to start with a 4th order. What do you guys think of the specs for this? What would you change, and for what reason (not because i know everything, but i want to know why I'm wrong). Think one of these could handle 750-800w daily? I know this won't be as loud as my 12s, and i really don't care, i want to see what i can do with some 8s. Start with one, get the most i can out of it (overall, SQL, not SQ, not SPL) then get a 2nd, then maybe one day get a 3rd. I have enough room for 3 DD1508s ported, i know that, so i imagine i could fit 3 of these ported.
  22. Im now lost, but I'm interested in this thread, since I'm trying to get my electrical squared away. How do you figure out how much you really draw? How do you then figure out what you need? Just add up output of your alt plus Ah from your batteries?
  23. switch it to the parametric, the sad part is, i can get to it without thinking if my HU was in front of me, without looking at it, but i THINK if your press A. Select or whatever the below and to the right of the button, you get the menu for x-overs, time correction, EQ. I can't tell you how to navigate and use everything right now, like i said, i can do it without looking, but i need it in front of me to tel you where it all is.
  24. unless you're a cop you can't carry in chicago, open or concealed. Gangbangers don't give a fuck though. All they do is strip us of any way to protect ourselves and take forever to respond to 911 calls. Its easy to get a throw away on the streets, i haven't tried before, but I've been offered in chicago, tulsa and OKC, hell, even in my little town of St. Charles, IL. I knew a guy who broke into a police car, stole a gun from the car, tried to sell it to me, at which point i told him to fuck off, and he buried it in his yard... Those who CANT have guns WILL get them, thats my whole point.
