  1. Hey guys sorry for the delay, I sold the car I was going to put this in and bought a new one. The plan still stands but I drive 54 miles each way to work so time is very limited. I am also looking really hard to upgrade the 7998 to the 7998R with optical output. If I can find that I will change processing to the bit one instead. Stay tuned periodically, I will get this train rolling!
  2. I got ya, personal preference is going to play a large part for sure. With the Focals the tweet is a little bright so I don't have a problem running it in the kick but there is a lot of knowledge on the site here and I wanted to get as much advice as possible before committing! My biggest problem I have is that when I workout I use my iPod and I can hear a lot more of the subtle notes and background tracks that I just have not been able to reproduce as clearly in the systems I have had in the past. I'm sure an iPod is nowhere near a heavyweight in sonic clarity ( I'm not even running lossless, YET!) so I have to believe that I can at least reproduce that level in my first SQ based system. I have the beats to go with everything else but I refuse to even start the box until I get the front stage right and my electrical up to par.
  3. I am basically starting from scratch and planning on building a system this time with the best possible staging and imaging I can manage. This is going to in a 1990-1993 Honda Accord I wil be purchasing in the next week or two and I plan on htting the ground running. I'm no competitor and don't think that I could reach that level in the near future but I have some good equipment and I want to do the best I can to let it shine. I am not ashamed to say that compared to many on here both my skill and time are limited so I am planning on doing everything I can with what I have! Equipment Alpine 7998 (have) Xtant 50x2 (have) Xtant 75x2 (have) Xtant 100x2 (have) Full SIP kit to fine tune and run active (which will also be my first) have Focal Utopia 3 way (have) Q-Forms kick panels (waiting to purchase until I know the interior color of the car) Like I said my expertise is somewhat limited and time even more so. That is why I am going to go with a pre fab kick because they have always at least been decent and much less time consuming than starting from scratch. I do plan on glassing to rears and creating a box for the mids but that brings me to my question. Would I be better off running the 6 and tweet in the kick and 4 in the pillar 4 and tweet in the kick and 6 in the door or tweet and 4 in the pillar and 6 in the kick? My previous setup was tweet in the dash stock location firing up against the glass near the base of the a pillar, 4 in the door and 6 in a very large custom kick panel. It sounded good but there were some definate holes in the sound. A lot of subtle mid range frequencies just seemed to be missing at times. Some of that possibly had to do with the head unit (AVIC N1) but I am sure the placement could have been better. I would love some feedback on this. One final thing, I am planning on using 1 amp to power the setup and go passive until the 3Sixty.3 comes out soon. Then I will be switching to a dedicated amp for each pair of speakers for as much control as possible. I already have all the amps from previous installs so I though this would be a good setup but if you see a better way then let me know.
  4. It depends on the type and extent of the remodel/repairs you are going to do. Since I own a real estate and mortgage company I deal with this somewhat often. The previous advice given on the forum is good, a home equity line or convertable secured line of credit is good. You can also look into a construction loan as well depending on the extent. If you have a lot to do (let's say over 50K) or the habitability of the home is at risk then this loan may be better for a few reasons. First a construction loan usually has a short 1 year or less minimum or no payment window. Basicall as you are building you are not making payments. The reason is like a convertable loan, they want to switch it to a home equity line of credit or have you get one to pay them off. You obviously need good (760+) credit and a perfect mortgage history over the last 36 months to do this. This can relieve some stress of the payment. If it is less or minor then you can just get an equity line and do the repairs at your leisure. Also with a home equity line you can do as much work yourself as you like; many construction loans allow ONLY licensed contractors to do the work. Hope that helps!
  5. It must be for the videos, they will charge for each device unless you have them all linked to the same itunes to share.
  6. You can always restore your phone even if you brick it so it's not a big deal. I would wait until the official Jailbreak for the new software though otherwise you might have to go a week or more without your "software".
  7. It's kind of funny how so many people are hating on Toyota. They were the ones who said don't sell anymore cars and brought the problem to the public. That is the Japanese way of doing business. Hell if this keeps up the CEO would probably kill himself. It happened a few years ago at a brokerage and a bunch when they had their economic meltdown. No one was crying when hundreds of people were flipping Expeditions on the freeway (but it was the tires, I swear!!!) And every american car has at least 10 recalls. This is crazy, Toyota will be fine. They make good cars, too little for me but they are good.
  8. Of course not everyone likes Apple products and yes in the wrong hands this thing can be pretty useless. I however am not one of these people and I also never use a device for its intended purpose, especially if it is hackable. The iphone OS is simply easy to manipulate (but I don't personally know how to do it, that is what google and nerds are for) and this thing will be a bad azz carputer, period. I can run all my itunes and apps (can you say Jailbreak) in the car and at a show I can just pop the little sucker out and play youtube crap in HD to pass the time. It won't skip so I can :hairtrick: all I want so it is perfect for me. Not trying to convince anyone because there are too many better things to spend your money on but for me and my family, we will support the apple! (<~~~~I had to do it!!!!)
  9. Exactly what I was thinking! The wife is getting one right away but our situation may be different than most. She is in college and the books are so damn expensive (about 450 a pop) that just one of these will pay for itself in savings from the book Nazis! I think most people are expecting too much, its a convergence device, meant to do everything the iphone does but with a bigger screen and less than a computer. Yes a netbook does these things but they cant really be used as an ereader as easily or the kindle would have no chance. I think the biggest Kindle is almost 600 too so it's not off by that much. I agree though that for most it may not be usefull; but for me it is!!!!
  10. I deal with this everyday in Real Estate and was an underwriter for a long time so I can tell you exactly what it will do to your credit. 1. Credit crap for 7 years? NO- with a BK you can buy a new home the next day with 30% down (not reasonable but it is a fact) and within 2 years you will qualify for less than 10% down with re-established credit if buying a home 2. A debt consolidation company will be better, NO NO NO NO-I was taught to treat all debt cons. as a BK period. So why pay extra to them if you can do it yourself. 3. A BK only makes sense if it is Chapter 7, if you cannot qualify then settle your debt with the original creditor. If they refuse hang up and call back. It can take as much as 30 attempts but you will get it done, after all that is all you are paying a cons. company to do. 4. It happens to everyone, I am going to file in March after my business racked up 250,000 that I can't pay if I want to eat so I understand fully your situation. Shit happens. Our income dropped 70%! 5. Don't let any idiot tell you that a BK is a bad thing, there is a reason that we have the option. If you honestly tried but got rear ended (as in the current) economy that is the EXACT reason for it. Hope that helps!!! If you have specifc questions you can PM me but keep in mind I am federally obligated to tell you I am not an attorney and cannot give legal advise. (Sorry, licensing requires that but I can give an opinion based on previous experience!)
  11. Like a wall but not quite! Think speakerworks Grand National but with a box instead of an AP. The entire frame will be built first then the birch will be cladding essentially and the floor will be reinforced fiberglass about an inch thick. A LOT of work is being done right now just to get ready to build the box but it will all be worth it!
  12. I was actually planning on using one idea they had which was to use a pocket jig on the 2X4 skeleton along with a crapload of glue to keep the frame as strong as possible, plus it looks cleaner even though it will be in the box! Seems to work on furniture pretty well.
  13. That's what I said!!!! Thank you! That is my actual design they were talking about. I am building a 2X4 "skeleton" with double wall birch 16 cubes for 2 DC LVL5 18's. I may use running thread too through the 2X4's as well because the length will be over 30". I'm also going to run 45's along the 2X4's and all corners, glass+mat the entire box sand bondo and then paint for a smooth finish. Feels good to be right!!! :hairtrick:
  14. Please help me end a discussion with my father and a friend of his. My dad's friend is an amazing woodworker. I have seen him do things that just didn't even seem possible. The problem though is that they keep telling me that they can make a stronger box then I can based on the info from this website. Basically the argument is that they feel a double walled box with dovetail joints would be stronger than any box and dowels/bracing. I argued that a long panel (over 40") would slop around like a wet noodle at high pressure but they seem to believe that if you split all sides over 24" and dovetail them it will be just as strong. I'm not a woodworker, I also know that "strong" in construction is not the same as strong in car audio. I searched the forum for dovetail, buscuits etc and found only 1 post. I am building soon so please help me end this discussion!!!! If something like this is better and I have access to it I should just do it!
  15. Yes, those are the ones I was planning on working with. I think they are tang band but I am not sure.
