  1. Thanks, that's what I've been thinking but I just wanted to confirm that it would work better.
  2. I thought that too but I spoke with the owner of Sundownonly.com and he told me that in a sealed box the SD-2's would perform better then the SA's. I was just going off of his assumption. In the sealed box, the subs would be seeing around .75ft^3 after displacement.
  3. I've got an AQ1200d to power my new system. I am going to either use one 10 capable of handling all 1200+ watts or two 10's that will split the power. The single sub would be something like a Fi SSD and the two subs would be Sundown SD-2's. What differences will I see in these two setups? I'd have twice the cone area with the SD's, so does that mean twice the volume?
  4. Thanks for that. That'd really suck if that happened!
  5. What does the QTS option offer? How does that affect it in a sealed box and how would it make that much of a difference in resale?
  6. Does anyone have any experience with a Fi SSD in a sealed box? I've never owned a Fi but know that they're solid. I'd love to get a 10" Q but I dont have room to mount it in my truck. The downfiring box I have has 6.5" from the outside bottom of the box to the inside top. The SSD has a mounting depth of 6", including the thickness of the wood. Is there enough room to make this work? Does the SSD have a pole vent? And if it does is .5" enough space for it to perform well? Box is .95 ft^3. Sub displacement is .12". Fi suggests between .6-1ft^3 for airspace so I'd be right in the middle. Powered by an AQ1200d. Would this work?
  7. That is extremely helpful. Thanks for posting that. I didn't think that ported was an option but damn I may have to do that. Do you have any experience with that box/company? Is it pretty solid. I've always heard to stay away from prefabbed.
  8. GAH I hate when this happens, I am horrible at making decisions between two subs. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? I feel like with two 10" drivers in bigger boxes on around 1200 watts they will both be reasonably loud. Is there a way to tell if one or the other will get lower or sound better in the same size box on the same power?
  9. This is very helpful. Thanks. If the SD 10 wants .5 ft^3, would .75ft^3 be overkill? I'd definitely be willing to sacrifice some SQ for some improved lows.
  10. The SA 8 is sweet but it actually has a bigger mounting depth than the SA 10 does. If you look at the pictures of it on their website you can actually see that the motor is bigger, I have no idea why. Its too bad though because I have some weird attraction with 8" subwoofers, especially 8s as big as those. I didn't know DC made a Lvl 2 8". I looked into the 10" a little bit and like it alot. Do either of y'all have any experience with it? How would it do in a sealed box you think?
  11. When you say tune lower you mean in a sealed box? It seems like sealed is my only real option if I want to do 2 subs? Does building a bigger sealed box allow it go get lower? Like if I put two 10" SD's in a box where they saw .75 ft^3 after displacement, would it be lower/louder then if it was in a box that was .5 ft^3 after displacement?
  12. I've only looked at the displacement for the sundown's but they're only .1, so I still would have a box with more than the minimum space.
  13. I guess another option I have is to go with one larger sub that can handle around 1200 watts on its on like a Fi SSD. So if you have some options like that, throw them out there too.
  14. I've got an AQ1200d sitting around from a previous system that I am going to use to power two subs to go under the seat of my 2011 Silverado crew cab. Space is definitely the limiting factor here. The VERY most I can get if I go with two subs is around .8 ft^3 sealed per sub. Max mounting depth I am looking at is 6". I've been looking at sundown for a little bit and am liking the SD series aswell as the SA series. I can get both the 10" and 12" SD to fit, but can only get the 10" SA to fit. I'm hoping to get a system that sounds good and can hit the lows well. Take in to account the only other system I've ever had was an HDC3 15" in a box tuned to 39hz. I was hoping to get something that could at least match that in hitting the lows, is that possible? Throw some other brands/models out there that will work or is sundown the way to go? Thanks guys.
  15. I've got an AQ1200d that I used in my last system about a year ago, and I want to check to make sure its still good to go into my next setup. Its been about a year since I took it out of my Tahoe and from then till now its just sat in my house and my garage. I dont think weather/heat would be an issue since it sits inside of a hot car its whole life. Is there an easy way to test if its still good or do I have to wait until I get everything set up?
  16. I know I can make the SD's work and I appreciate you turning me on to them. They look like some solid speakers. The only reason I am trying to get the SA's to fit is because my thinking is if I can get a more powerful speaker to fit, why not try to make it work? Is there any chance at all I can make this work, or am I wasting my time trying to figure out box ideas? How much space should the pole vent need? Because if its more than .5" or .75", I think I am screwed. Thanks for all the insight so far guys.
  17. So that would mean that the mounting depth would be 6" PLUS the thickness of the wood right? What would be a safer distance to run the bottom of the magnet and the bottom of the box? Could I get away with 1/2"?
  18. Actually I was just looking on Sundown's site. The SA 10 only has a depth of 6". I actually could make this work I guess. Does the mounting depth of a sub measured from the very top of the box? Or is it from inside the box. Basically what I am asking is if I made my box out of .75" wood, assuming I left 1/4" from the bottom of the magnet to the bottom of the box, would my box have to be 7" thick or 7 & 3/4"?
  19. That's an interesting thought. The HDC3 that I ran before in my Tahoe was tuned to 39hz, so it may not be drastically different.
  20. I don't want to have to raise the seats to make this work. I'd rather just get a sub that'd fit. The AA Chaos 10" has a mounting depth of 6". I know that I could make something like that work. Subthump's prefabed boxes have a depth of 6.5" so I could build my own with similar dimensions or just get one of theirs. I am sort of sidding towards just one sub to handle the full power from the AQ1200 instead of splitting it between two subs just because I'd only have to buy one driver instead of two. Is the only thing I will lose by putting all the power on one sub versus splitting it on two be volume? Also would someone please answer the above question about ported vs. sealed?
  21. I am looking to put a system under the back seat in my silverado crew cab. I have an AQ1200d left over from one of my previous systems that I want to use to power the sub(s) I am going to get. I used to have a 15" HDC3 in a big box tuned to 37 hz or something like that. It was plenty loud for me in my Tahoe. Now I am looking for something with a little more SQ. I think a sealed box is my only option because of the space restrictions, which is fine by me. Basically I was just hoping y'all could give me some options. Could I get a 10" Fi Q to fit? It has a mounting depth of 6.5" I think I could squeak out a box that is 7" tall or so. Would that work? Also, what differences will I see moving from ported to sealed? I know I will lose SPL and gain SQ but how much volume will I lose? Will a sealed set up play as deep/deeper than a ported set up? I don't want to spend a fortune, $350 or $400 on the driver depending on if I get one or two. Thanks guys.
  22. I've got a two way viper so that when my alarm goes off my little remote thing lights up and beeps and vibrates. My bedroom is also about 30 feet from where my car is parked and when it goes off the alarm itself is so loud you dont need the remote to let you know what is happening.
  23. like the paintjob you got on there. Its from a spiderman movie right? Very creative. Keep it up. Oh and also nice setup.
  24. damn I wish I would have seen this last night
