  1. I really just depends on tuning and what sounds best to you!
  2. I usually run about 5 layers 1/4"-1/2" thick, then duraglass, then bondo, then glaze! After that the front baffle is about 3/4" thick and ready for paint!!
  3. The EQL, EQS, and EQX, are all great! If you want look for a pair of Image Dynamics IDQ equalizers! They are amazing, an are both 30 band 2/3 octave!
  4. I think Audiocontrol makes a dual 20 band eq, that would be more than enough tuning capabilities for a front stage, just be prepared to spend some money!
  5. Just run an eq on the front stage, use the backs as a fill and keep little power to them. There is really no need for any rear speakers in an SQ setup, all your sound should be center/front with your sub stage acting as a rear fill. But as for an EQ, it depends on budget! Audiocontrol is prolly your best bet for quality, but you'll be spending a fortune! With my car Im using an Alesis MEQ-230. The Alesis is used mainly for concert tuning in PA setups, but with a Ac/dc inverter can be used in a car! But if you want digital Alesis also makes a DEQ-230. The EQ is a dual 30 band 1/3 octave eq. So tuning is not easy, but very precise. Hell, my set-up consists of a pair of composite 6.5" in front, my Alesis and a single 12" sub. But, when tuned correctly, shall sound like youre in a recording studio. Im just waiting to get my RTA so I may be able to start tuning, get it dialed in and maybe compete!
  6. To be honest, the RE subs of new are not like the RE subs of old! I know people prolly will disagree, but everyone has their own opinion! But from what I have heard, installed, and tested in the last year, there are only a few subs that I would replace my Onyx sub with for my SQ needs. It really depends on which genre you want to go with. You want SQL, I would run either a Sundown SA12, T3 t.1000, or an Image Dynamics IDMAX. If you are leaning more towards SQ, then I would consider the T3 t.600 or the Image Dynamics IDQ! I havent had personal experience with any FI stuff, some of the middle/high RE, or any of the middle/high RF! But with the ones I have listed I am very impressed and quite happy with their performance, quality, clarity, and strong response to many tones. But in all actually, to each their own!
  7. I like the power behind the RE Sub more than RF, hits tones crisper and more precise IMO!
  8. go on ebay, look for old Linear Power amps, like the 652iq, the 952iq, or 1502iq, they will out do many of the new amps today, and are worth every penny you spend! They are amazing for a front stage! For a mono amp for your sub choice, look into like old zapco 2 ch, they need external crossovers but have power well more than rated, perfect to push a sub. Front stage, check out lower end Rainbow comps, lower end Morel, and even look into CDT stuff, usually reasonably priced! Sub stage, well this is up to if you want your Sq, SPL,or SQL. I bought a T3 Audio t.600 10" for my fiance's build and have to say I'm impressed and the sub didnt kill my bank account. You could also do Image IDQ's, or Sundown. As long as enclosure is built right, youll get the quality desired. Ill tell you as an SQ guy, you dont need 1000's of dollars to sound good, you need great assembly and tuning, imaging, whether to run in or out of phase. Its about the build more than the product, one angle can through off imaging, and poof sounds like shit. Good luck with the build and hope you enjoy!
  9. Yeah I cant wait to see what he brings to the table next! Thanks for clearing up some of the air, I just wish there was a way to hear from Eric himself!!
  10. I hope so, cause I go by the way everything is laid out, it seems as though he is hanging up the cutters and calling it a day! But I hope to hear more about this, and hopefully Eric isnt retiring!!
  11. Well to put it lightly I wasnt sure, seeing as website is down, all phones are down, emails are down, I assumed they were done. But if he is selling, it wont be the same no company that has been sold has come back to the quality they were. I also put question marks in the post title, for more info!!
  12. I hope so, I planned on buying a lot of stuff shortly, thats why I went to the site and saw that
  13. If hes retiring I hope someone that knows the business keeps it going and doesnt kill it. You can still get their stuff while inventory lasts I suppose!!
  14. After how many years showing people amazingness and quality still lives, it comes as a depressing day, to see that such a great and reputable company as Image Dynamics has possibly shut its doors! I went on their website yesterday and saw one page a page stating and I quote- "Thank you for years of support. It is with much sadness that I say goodbye" Eric Stevens- Founder Image Dynamics. If anyone out there has anymore info on this please let it,be heard, I know I'm not only one wanting info!!
  15. I live in an apartment too and I actually built my radio housing on my kitchen table, the wife was livid when she got home and there I sit resinning away, lol
  16. but they've made 4 LMAO!!!! I'm just curious, I know I can't afford it, especially with the cash I've just spent on my system
  17. Wow, that's kinda harsh, LOL!!! I was curious on the same thing, but unsure if I want to know now. But why don't you humor us and give a rough estimate on the debut price in the oncoming 2010 year.
  18. If you have a bench Hook up the Big 3 and a 200amp alt and you should be ok. If you have buckets w/ center console Hook up Big 3 and run a secondary battery in the center console. run batteries underneath and no problems should come up. If still having voltage issues. add battery to having a bench ---------------or----------------- add alternator to buckets setup I wouldn't run a cap because they are more of a headache then the money they are worth.

  20. I'm from Highland, up in the NW Indiana portion, prolly hour and a half from you depending how fast I drive.
  21. I'm Mike, been doing the whole custom fab deal for about 10 years solid. Found this site through a couple friends and have thoroughly enjoyed watching everyone's builds and seeing what's new in the world of BASS travel. LOL!!!! I hope everyone enjoys what I bring to the table and I hope I can bring more people from my region into this forum.
  22. Yeah I see what you are talking about, but it's prolly because of the headliner foam underneath holds the form, when you push it down. But when it relaxes everything looks uniform and nice.
  23. I've been looking for a reputable Shop in the Chicagoland/NW Indiana area, that will give me the opportunity to show my skills in the field. I have been doing car audio and custom interiors for over 10 years and would like a chance at becoming an asset to a shop. If there is anyone that has any knowledge of a shop or company willing to give a 26 year old audio fanatic a job that would be wonderful. I have some of my work below so you all can get a feel of what I can bring to the table. Thank You Mike Hopefully these give you an idea.
