Yes it was smoking and yes I'm using mat. I fucked up my only mixing cup so I just filled up a big tupperware bowl, dumped it in and rotated the box till everything was covered, and touched up with a brush. I've taken a lot of pics but I'll post a couple just for a preview. I even hooked it up today and the shit bumps pretty good for the equipment I have. I duck taped the mat in place. I know it looks shitty but I'm learning as I go here...

Maaaan!!! It says add 14 drops for every ounce of resin. 24X14=336 Fuck it, this is my first box and the first time working with fiberglass. Good thing I bought 120 oz of resin...

I poured 24oz and mixed in 336 drops of hardener and the whole cup hardened up in the middle of my work, got hot as hell, and is now smoking. WTF? Is this normal? LOL

Well, just assurance I guess. I've found that tinkering with the box calculator that every inch makes a huge difference. I just don't want to put my best work into a box that's going to sound like shit. According to my calculations, it says that my Physical Port Length is negative one inch. Is this right or does it need to be a positive number? These subs aren't going to be groundpounders no matter what I do so I'm thinking about scrapping this shit and building a smaller sealed box for the full range of notes/clarity. Not sure where to go from here with the project.
