  1. Okay, I feel like I'm making way too many posts, even though this is only my second, but out of user experience, which should I go with? I have over 9 cubes after displacement of space, I'll prolly bring it down to 8. I'm wanting to tune around 28 hz, just to have that wtf reaction from people who sit in my car.
  2. Then put it in the port. And I refuse to sport a spare, so I don't even worry about it. plus my dad's friend owns a towing company.
  3. So, I've been riding around with this new box for quite some time, not getting anywhere near finishing the build, and I got my job, so I said you know what forget this. Went to the local shop to get it metered, they're called "Sundown One" I found that kinda funny, but anyways they charge 20 bucks to do a sweep and one song, and you don't even get to see it... I felt so ripped off, but they did give me a nice print out. The guy said that this is what it did on music, on the dash, sealed up. I'm satisfied, I expected a 135 or lower. So I'm now selling this old ass sub and the box, and I already have a serious offer of 250, and I've been talking to rusty a little bit about an 18, and he directed me to a level 4 xl (I originally asked about that and a level 5, I don't think I know what I'm getting into). So I'm pretty serious about getting it, prolly within the next few weeks, and with that said, I'll need an amp too, sooo anyone have any suggestions? I'm prolly going to go with kicker hifonics or audioque, something like that, just because my uncle is a distributer for a company that carries lines like that. Edit: and do the kinda slanted waves on the o-scope mean I'm kind of clipping? because I feel like I am with this brutus amp.
  4. What year is your protege? I have a 99 that I'm going to try to do a level 4xl in, let me know how you decide to do it, I'm building inside of my trunk I just can't decide if I should try port in back firing up or angling the baffle and trying to fit it in. Edit: nevermin just read it's not going in the protege, you had me excited for a minute =[, anyways I'm still tuned in, I'm interested to see how it works out for you.
  5. How did you get your box volume? Was it recomended? If it was was it recomended after port displacement? If you calculated it what did you use? It's kind of a vague situation for us to just tell you
  6. x2, I hooked up my 15 on 1200 watts with the old 8ga from my 10's, gave some kid a demo, we both went "WTF is that smell" I popped my hood and it was black and melted allll over, that was really stupid on my part, I didn't even think to upgrade my wire, I'm glad I caught it when I did. Edit: post fail.

  8. Are you sure you have the positive wire from the subs running to the positive terminal in the amp and the negative to negative, or if there's a phase switch its not on 180. This sounds like the problem.
  9. oh okay I see what you're saying now, yea thats terrible. I hope you get your truck looking new again, it looks nice other than the damage.
  10. Wow, thats ignorant, you're saying like say they were trying to go to mcdonalds and you're in the left most lane and they're in the lane next to you and just tried to turn in front of you into mcdonalds, something like that? thats messed up, I'd feel horrible if it happened to me, I hope she gets better, and wish you the best with your truck/finding a new one.
  11. I'll say deer +1 zzz nvm read his sig. Whos fault was it? what happened?
  12. Lol, Mines doesn't exactly fit, we had to take off all the paneling and the spare tire cover and kinda kick it in, no damage to the box or anything either. How low do you think I should be going? everything down to 20 sounds good to me. Oh and its prolly not near the specs I gave earlier, I'm just going by what my uncle said I never double checked them, and hes known for forgetting and guessing.
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scJpyk5MsOs I got a few videos, youtube was being real gay last night, and I'm in a hurry to get to school so I can't embed them all right now. They're all of the same stuff, just different songs, I didn't know what to do lol.
  14. Yep yep, it's not entirely free though, I wish it was. I'm just tigh with my uncle and he let's me barrow stuff, and get discounts.
  15. Shakey how? Tips are apreciated for future builds, and thanks for the comment.
  16. Ohhh man look at me now. I got set back a little, but that's life, here's the little progress I've made. New Box : Om nom nom this is the back wall of the port, I guess its almost like a t-line? idk I'm not sure on the box specs, I don't remember, but I know its a little bigger than the last one, longer and shorter, so I'd guess ~5cuft at 32hz. I also got a new(to me) smaller amp, I'll try to get pics later, its a alpine dc straight 1k@1ohm I'll try to get some videos later or maybe tomorrow too, it's so much louder it embarrasses me to say I had that old box.
  17. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zNkwNwiTjJ2/p_113KAC7201/Kenwood-KAC-7201.html 4ohm stable bridged http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_47_Alpine+SWR-1221D+Type+R+DVC+2-Ohm+12-.html 300rms 1000max Edit: nvm thats the 1221 you're right about 500rms, either each coil to each channel or 4ohm bridged
  18. 460 watts RMS x 1 bridged output at 4 ohms 230 watts x 2 at 2 ohms RMS power handling: 300 watts I'd do, bridged at 4 ohm, buttttt thats me.
  19. Alright, so I got sick of my box last night and got some money, so next up I'll be sealing up the trunk and upgrading all my wire and other stuff. All of this hopefully happening tomorrow.
  20. The power is what I'm worried about with my box, it's rated at 1k I thought but I'm giving it 1.8, dimensions are : 33wX17hX18 5/8deep all measured from the outside quarter inch mdf, port is : 9 5/8h X 3w X 12.5deep, thats measured from the inside of the lip, with the lip it would be 2.25wide
  21. Okay to start off, I'm 17, jobless, and this is my first "build". Everything I have, including my car and all the work done to it, has cost me under $2,000 of mostly my own money. Before I get to equipment, no laughing at my box/port, but help and opinions are okay. The box : Thats where the port is supposed to meet the baffle, I didn't even realize it was gapped until I took the sub out. The port from the inside.(Keep in mind I don't have a table saw and this is my first time cutting wood) I did my best to cut down/sand the important uneven edges, theres no actual air leaks all the way around the box. Now this is the messed up part/the part I need help/opinions on Thats the inside of my port looking out, my uncle came over when I was putting everything together, and was like "No no no no this is all wrong." So I let him do it the right way(which actually was the right way) and I find out all my measurements are wrong, I went from 5 cubes @ 32hz I think to like 5.9 @??hz idk what to do with the port, and my uncle said to just leave it for now(which I don't want to do)so right now I have a huge ass box that barely fits in my trunk(we had to take all the paneling off and the spare cover out and force it in) with a really messed up port, with no idea what to do. So anyways on with the pictures, Box/amp : Now before you all start whining about the cap, I only put it there for the looks, I know its useless on my stock electrical. Its a PA a3000db, 1800watts@2ohm The car : Can't even afford a dash kit. And the sub : Older 15in L7, got it from my uncle to replace my two type r's(he told me it would make them sound like 6x9's, I think he lied) So thats it for now, I'm deciding what to do with the box, again suggestions are accepted. I can't build a new one(the right way ofc) for a few more weeks, I have a promised job coming soon so I'll be able to afford stuff. Oh and my mids/highs, ha. I'm not ripping the panels off to take pics and idk model names, but upfront i've got a stock 5x7, yes just one. and in back some powerbass 6x9's.
  22. oh, i thought he hooked em all up and braced em in, lookin forward to some honda videos if you're gunna do any
