Hey guys, here´s a vid i taped a few days ago on the 18´s box build for my suzuki swift ( you can see my build log here 18´s ) , this helps you to reduce port noise and also, to pound much better to the ear and on the sensor hehe. Things that you need: - Heat gun - PVC tube of course - Metallic bowl (plastic melts) - Cool water. Steps: In this case, using PVC 6" tubes, the process is very simple: 1) Heat up the tube 3 inches from the PVC so it takes the bowl shape, in this step you don´t apply any pressure 2) Once the tube it´s warm you heat it up at 1 inch from the tube 3) Apply pressure on the tube 4) Cool it with water Tell me what you think, i really think they turned out very nice

Only detail with that amount of port area per cubic feet, is that you need to flare it because you would get port noise, my best sounding box with an awesome flat respond on the swift was 8.5 SQ per cubic feet, sounded great 35-55 hz, that thing only had 2 dbs of difference between 38 hz and 48 hz

hehe good luck, take note of everyhting so you can know at the end what´s the exact tuning and internal space, it´s not too difficult of understand really, next time when you build a box you´ll know exactly what to do and how you can play with internal space, tuning, port area and everything depending on the box and power, cheers!!!!

I would try to shrink it to 15 x 3.5 , if you shrink the wide too much maybe could get choked a little bit? i would just add a .5" mdf on the port so it ends 15 x 3.5 , i said 2 1" to end 13 x 4 but you could get some cancellation maybe, who knows, once again, SHRINK THE BOX, forget about the port right now, maybe you´ll get a respond so flat that you won´t have to touch the port, my daily box is tuned @ 44 hz and that shit sounds awesome around 35 hz, as Tristan said, depends on the sub, just forget about any theory and try right now with the internal space, then worry about port area and tuning

Looks good man, but it is easy for you to add more lenght to the port?? i would say it´s easier to shrink the port area a little bit, just add two 1" mdf woods on the wall of the port so you would have 58" SQ of port

Lower than 32 hz? damn! haha, well it depends on the music likes, i love the lows but i love even more 41-44 hz frequencies, that´s why i don´t tune lower than 35 hz, if you want to kick ass the lows tune around 28 hz then, but you´ll be playing C&S music more than other other ahaha

haha you are welcome bro, You know what?? just start getting the 2x4 in there until you are satisfied with how it plays, but yes i would shoot 3.2 - 3.4 cubic feet to play nice, then you go to the port area and start playing with it if it needed, i guess you will because the tuning would raise...

Well, i can help you on this, but first, are you 100% sure it´s 3.8 cubic feet after displacement??? remember that, shrinkin the box would raise your tuning, also, your port would become from 15.7 SQ per cubic feet to 20 SQ per cubic feet, you now have a lot of power so port area shouldn´t be a problem for you, but, if adding more lenght to the port to get a low tuning is a problem for you, you can shrink the port area also... I would do this: shrink the box 0.6 cubic feet and get the port area to 50 SQ, this would give you 15.63 SQ per cubic feet with a 32 hz tuning

Sub is bottoming out because you increased the power a lot and box is to big for that amount of power now, why building a new box??? get some 2x4 braces and shrink the internal space, that should fix your problem

I disagree with a few guys on this thread (no disrespect of course), one of my DD 1510´s surround broke because the sub smashed against a metal on the seat (don´t ask), i called DD and they wanted me to buy the entire recone kit, my sub was about 3 months old, it was something like 90$ plus shipping to panama, so, 150$ for a 10" 500 watts sub kit? fuck it!! I took my sub to a friend´s shop and he installed a cheap ass surround wich it´s used for pro audio subs, what do you think? almost 10 months later that shit it´s pounding like brand new, of course it doesn´t have the same xmax than before, but to the ear you can´t even note it, here´s a of pic and a vid of it, on the vid you can see how it´s shorter than the other two haha. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X1JGFQLNS4

As Mr. Emperor said, depends also on the box size, i wouldn´t tune under 35 hz if it´s a bix box with some nice power, if it´s a small box with a lot of power then yes i would tune around 32 hz, but having to listen c&s music all day long must be kind of boring bro, what´s the FS of those subs?

Sure, you can make the ports a little bit larger if you want

Well, i´m not the biggest expert here, but o give you an idea, if you are looking for 4 cubic feet after displacement with 2 ports 2" wide, if you are using a 17" tall box then the port would be 15.5" height assuming you are using 3/4" wood; i would get a box like: 17" H 33" W 19.5" D Port: 15.5" H 2" w 25" D this would give you 4 cubic feet and 38 hz of tuning with those two ports on L shape, someone correct me if i´m wrong...

i don´t know, we built a friend´s car with 2 R´s 12" and a 2K amplifier and that shit pounds very nice, 145 dbs on the termlab also, i would go (if im short on money) with 4 Type R´s 15" with that big ass trunk, that´s a lot of cone area, 4 12´s would be very nice also but 15´s looks more impressive

well, it does look cool haha, i always prefer to have a single port for a single sub, however, i have seen lots of boxes like this that pound very nice, so yes it could work, best thing it´s to try it out, however, 2" wide could be a little chucked IMO, but since it´s two of them, i guess it would work very nice, try it!!!

Why don´t you use a single port? would take less internal space, how many cubic feet you are getting for this box? around 4 cubic feet?
