  1. just out of curiosity... what kind of strobe kit or lights do you have? the only two kits i ever used were the streetglow pro series & the optx 4 bulb kit. i noticed the ones you posted links to are led. i've never seen an LED strobe kit b4. In my experience the best & brightest kit was the streetglow kit. with the street glow you could clearly see them even in the day time @ shows. the optx xenon were decent but hard to see during the day.
  2. lol, yeah i've seen some gross rims tucked really tight b4 (to the point there was no wheel well under the hood & custom size in the bed/back. my friend at work was looking into buying some rims for an impala & neither of us knows much about how big he can go while keeping things stock. so i was wondering how do u measure to tell what's going to rub when you turn or about different tire sizes for the rims u choose. i did find a link to what all the numbers mean & such (Link) but nothing about how to measure what will fit in the allowed space.
  3. My name is Gil. I live in upstate New York & drive a 2001 chevy blazer ls 4x4 (4x4 cuz a foot an hour of snow here is not unusual). There's not much for the car scene up here these days, i think it's pretty much a bunch of independents behind closed doors. My favorite show was recently dropped by the club who threw it (Right Coast Cars), so now i'm pretty much just doin' my own thing. I have a few friends who are into custom cars but not many. i found this site threw youtube & figured i would check it out cuz i like forums. there's nothing like a bunch of people from all over who can help you with things you don't know about. they also have many wild ideas & concepts that are unheard of by most people so it's nice to hear from people who think outside the box rather than just following trends. most of the time those trends are already outdated to those who are on the inside track of things.
  4. I was just curious how you figure out what the largest size tire & rim combo you can put on a vehicle is. Was also wondering how do you measure tire size for the rims you choose to put on the vehicle while keeping within the correct max measurement. I know there are different offsets as well (which I'm still not 100% clear on), but is there a limit to the offset as well?
  5. only thing i could think of was possible electrocution. other than that it IS a safety device which you would think was strapped down to something like the frame so that if you were in an accident, you don't "go for a ride". now that i think about it... isn't the body just sheet metal anyways? i mean how much better can that really conduct electricity? by no means is the bracket a thin sheet of metal... i fried the tips off two self tapping screws just trying to put the ground to the side of it. obviously the contact point is cleaned down to bare metal & like others have said it is rather low wattage at the moment cuz i just started getting into this as a hobby. when i decide to upgrade to something like 1800-2400 watts i will probably run a cable back there instead, but the question had me spinning for a few days.
  6. May be a stupid question to some but i'm pretty clueless on this subject. i did a search but it came back with a bunch of things about alternator brackets & back seat mods, so i figured i would ask. So Why Is The Seat Belt Bracket A Bad Place To Ground?
  7. why is the bracket off limits? i always sand & take the wire wheel attachment on the dremel to everything that needs a clean connection.
  8. ok, 1 more quick question. i was speaking with a friend of mine at work & he said if i grounded my amp to the seat belt bracket, that i should add a line of 0 gauge to the body also. he says that the bracket is attached to the body versus the frame. any truth to this? should i add a line to the body as well?
  9. yeah it's on 2001 LS 2 door blazer that i just started working on. originally my plan was to just throw in a little bass to make the sound more realistic but then seeing all the vids people around here are posting... it makes me want to go a bit bigger. next step is the alternator, battery & an alarm system. i figured i better get the big 3 out of the way now before the upgrades. (i'm really diggin' those Iraggi) as for the big 3, i was hoping to keep the wires short & close to the battery, that's why i was hoping to attach my first from the ground terminal to the bolt on the front of the bracket. My second wire would be about a foot and a half long that would run from the ground terminal to the frame just in front of the battery. i can't quite tell because there are a bunch of hoses in the way... but is the alternator bracket attached to the motor or the frame? i would imagine it is on the motor but there is still quite a bit i have to learn. my alternator bracket bolt looks a bit rough so i'm prolly gonna have to bust out the dremel & the wire wheel attachment to clean it up & make a nicer connection. Originally i was planning on just piggy backing the zero gauge on the original wires from the ground terminal to the block (then attaching one from the battery terminal to the frame), but it appears to go underneath the motor & there is a panel i would have to remove to get at it. thats where the saving a little time & saving money by running shorter wires comes in.
  10. I've heard of people grounding to the alternator bracket versus going directly to the block. i was wondering if I could Ground to either one of these bolts on the bracket... it would save me a lot of time (& some money on wire) if i could use these so i figured i would ask.
  11. I recently had the same issue, both my bottom & my size blew out. I fixed the bottom first & the whole time i thought i was hurting my sub when in fact the sound was the box the whole time. I got mine fixed now i can put the gain up much more than previously thought. glad you got your issue figured out.
