I had to totally re-vamp the project as the suppliers I was working with had major issues... had to write it all off as a loss.
I should have a new thread up soon with the new project; based on the SA-8 v.2 frame.
The 10" 4 ohm model just came in today so I decided to take a few pictures of them all together. We've had the 10" in 8 ohm for some time now.
At this time all sizes 6.5 / 8 / 10 are all in stock in 4 and 8 ohm coils.
* Not everyone realizes it; but the 10" model has a separate motor and a 2.5" coil compared to the 2" on the other sizes.
* 6.5" model
* 8" model
* 10" model
Indeed -- I am super happy with them so far
And yes, allergies and congestion are terrible... took medicine for it for years but really made my head feel weird all the time so I quit.
It was for 12s only -- it jumped up to the 15" Z v.3 spider size and the 15/18 coil length.
Many of our guys gained about a 1 dB using them compared to stock in burps and music classes if we were able to match the spider to their peaks
As far as the T/S specs are concerned the box suggestions won't change any meaningful amount from what we have now for most users. A bit larger box would allow you to more easily utilize the full stroke of the driver, though.
Unfortunately I damaged the 12" early (1 coil is at 2x Re -- one winding is out on one side so will also change BL by about 25%) on so that is not possible until I get more cones in (only have 1 of each for now).
I can measure the 10" once it gets fully charged; we are working on getting our own magnetizer by the time these are production but for now I'll have to send it off to get production level motor force
I saw some folks expressing concerns over the "SD" of the cones... here are a few photos :
* 10" Z v.3 Cone // 10" Z v.4 Cone
* 12" Z v.3 Cone // 12" Z v.4 Cone
* 12" Z v.3 Cone Diameter with 1/2 Surround
* 12" Z v.4 Cone Diameter with 1/2 Surround
* Total SD difference is only 10%
* 10" Z v.3 Cone Diameter with 1/2 Surround
* 10" Z v.4 Cone Diameter with 1/2 Surround
* The 10" frame is slightly over-sized... so it's actually slightly more SD
The 10" is done and drying; should be able to play tomorrow. I'll be a tad more careful this time *laughs* Of course I should be safe with the 8 3/8" spider vs. the 9 1/4" on the 12" model as I shouldn't be able to reach quite the level of throw!
This is the first 10" woofer with 3" coil that I've built that I didn't hate every second of... gives me a good feeling and I cannot wait to test it !
* Left to right : Z v.4 10 / Z v.4 12 / Z v.3 12
I have noted some doubt on whether all of these new parts will be of major benefit (not in this thread, of course, but I do see alot of things around the internet) -- what I say to that is; stay tuned for the results !
Here is the wire I knocked loose -- you can see it through the vent. The piece hanging off is the part after the connection is cut so I can still play the driver (eg: not shorting out on the motor).
Coils of this type have four windings -- I broke just one so I am running on "one and a half" coils in the video.
