  1. Few more photos this morning compared to other Z model woofers :
  2. We ALWAYS rate for the worst case scenario -- this is what you can expect as "official" ratings : X line -- 1250 RMS // pair of woofers with 2500D Z v.4 line -- 1750 RMS (1500 currently on v.3) // pair of woofers with 3500D NS v.3 line -- 2500 RMS Our ratings are generally tied to what can be done to the drivers safely in free air down to the 20s Hz region without damage -- so when put into enclosures users very often run much higher power.
  3. I am kicking myself a bit for getting crazy last night with it, haha... what I did was push it hard enough to exit the coil completely from the gap by a large amount -- the 12" frame supports 50mm of one-way travel not counting frame thickness... 59mm with frame thickness... and 71mm with vent spacer thickness added -- minus 8mm for triple joint ring so we can go 63mm one-way before bottoming the ring... and we have 62.5mm in the motor... so I had it up around 60mm one-way (which is actually 5mm PAST surround linearity)... which makes the coil about 1/2" past the gap *laughs* So when it came back down it knicked the top plate and knocked loose 1/2 of one voice coil (the coil is an 8-layer bifilar which is wound as a quad; so you can knock out 1/2 of a coil by breaking one wire) and this wire is rubbing on the top plate now making that metallic sound (I can see the loose wire through the vent spacer -- WOOPS!!!). Either way I have some ideas to minimize that possibility; although, I must admit, I was being totally careless with it to do that! Needless to say it was pretty crazy and just me being too happy with my new toy
  4. I did get a little too happy with it last night when I first fired it up -- you'll hear a small metallic sound because of some slight damage I did to it then (woops!). Either way I was still able to get a good test out of it for this video and show it in action -- with more testing to come as we get more prototypes together. The good news is I'll be able to make it even tougher on production thanks to my mistake =)
  5. Prototype motor paired with new 12" frame, 9.25" spider (what we use on Z v.3 18s now), and the new cone / surround. I literally JUST finished it so I cannot play it until tomorrow. That being said... it won't QUITE be able to use ALL of the clearance we have -- and that is great -- should be INCREDIBLY rugged and hard to damage  For those not current on all of these parts -- they are ALL prototype parts. They are not in production yet. Production parts will start appearing 1Q 2013.
  6. We have the SA-8 v.2 -- where we did tool the surround I may need to step it up a little when I do the X-8 Each surround is capable of LINEAR movement 5mm beyond what the frames can handle -- so they don't get fatigue. Short answer; we can make a 10" that uses most of the capacity.
  7. One of each showed up for us to check out -- will be building a 12" up first since that is the largest one I have a full size spider for. So that means I can take a video of it tomorrow ! On to the photos... they turned out way crazier than I imagined. 18" Cone ---------- 15" Cone ---------- 12" Cone ---------- 10" Cone
  8. We'll revisit the SAE line as soon as practical. Bigger amps than the NS-1 are not a huge priority.
  9. I know everyone has been anxiously awaiting these models to be available for ordering -- today is the day !!! So pick them up and be one of the first with the new models !!! ---------- http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/sundown-audio/137342-saz-1200d-prototype.html ** SAZ-1200D Information Thread http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/sundown-audio/123265-saz-2500d-v-2-prototype-completed.html ** SAZ-2500D v.2 Information Thread http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/sundown-audio/125227-sundown-saz-3500d-v-2-prototype-complete.html ** SAZ-3500D v.2 Information Thread ---------- Production started last week. 10. I've had this guy for a while but it seems I never posted up about it. Here are some photos of it -- tests out very similar to the SAX-1200D in power but is in our new narrow casing with a new layout. Pre-order coming soon along with 2500D v.2 and 3500D v.2 models... ETA by end of January 2013. * Much smaller than SAZ-1500D

So expect performance nearly up to par those models for less money. ---------- * Introduction Video * Next to SA-8 v.2 * Next to E8v.2
  12. There will be several spiders to choose from on them -- the biggest landing on 15s and 18s is 10 1/8" -- the 15" frame (with vent spacer) / surround is designed around about 5" p-p excursion -- it will be a bit before motors and coils catch up to utilize all of that of course We'll have X, Z, and NS v.3 spiders which are linear roll pressed packs of different thickness (3, 4, and 5 layer respectively) -- we've been using this style for some time and it's very reliable / supports quite a bit of throw. They will be the stock spider for these units at this time. We are also tooling a spider very similar to the NS v.1 / v.2 style "stacking" spiders in the appropriate 8 3/8, 9 1/4, and 10 1/8" sizes for the top landing on each frame for custom built units for SPL -- these are progressive units.
  13. Production quantity of these surrounds are still going to be into next year. With that being said you would need a new 2012 Sundown frame to use these -- then you could use the NS v.2 coil and v.3 style spider along with it. On 15s the spider size will also jump up to a 10 1/8" diameter unit. You will be motor limited on throw at that point to about 45mm one-way.
  14. Additional travel definitely out-weighs any reduction in Sd -- it also removes the possibility of excessive excursion related damage (usually tearing around the cone edge of a surround). As far as the X line ; I've held it for these parts. The motor completed this week for the first prototype -- I'd expect to be showing a 12" working sample in a few more weeks now that all of these parts are rolling out.
  15. I am not aware of a bigger surround in production currently -- the Earthquake Holee-S 15" surround is about the size of the surround on the 10" cone here; they get a bit bigger up to the 15" -- the 15 and 18" are the same size as the spiders will be the same size. They will go on 3" coil models (and later 4" coil) -- so currently X, Z, and NS lines.
  16. I got the first pictures in of all of the new cones / surrounds -- they are on the way to me for testing so hope to have some mocked up soon! 10" cone / surround (with revised material from last picture) : 12" cone / surround : 15" cone / surround : 18" cone / surround (for the 6-spoke) :
  17. I have not yet seen any SA series surrounds damaged from simply sitting... they've been sold since 2009. Not exposed to sun-light they could sit for a LOOOOONG time.
  18. Revised ETA is 3rd week of November; pretty close to on target as of now
  19. Yes the entire new SAX / SAZ line has the lights.
  20. The SA-8 v.2s work VERY well tuned down low, yes.
  21. The 8" motor is completely different; so it cannot be changed to other sizes nor vice-versa.
  22. There won't be enough room in the chambers to fit two ports of either 3" or 4" per side. You could fit a single 3" x 14" long to tune right around 35 Hz A 4" port would be ~24.5" long so won't fit. But yes, you are correct in that they won't work well sealed.
