I take the lights with a grain of salt unless they are on pretty steady Little flicker is of no real concern. -

As with any pre-order delivery times are an ETA (estimated time of arrival) and are not a guarantee of the delivery date. DO NOT ORDER if you are not okay with possible delays on the delivery. That being said the ETA is middle of November 2012 on these. ---------- Pre-Order Price : $155 Regular Price : $199 Pricing is shipped in continental 48 states. Contact us for a SH quote to AK or HI. !!! THIS IS FOR USA ONLY !!! To order get in touch with your favorite local or online dealer or send a Paypal in to us at [email protected] YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS. If these are both not included your payment will be refunded. ---------- * Mids ready with frames and shims for assembly * Chromed back plate with logo etched in * Going down the line * Back of box has mid and tweeter measurements, response graphs, and midrange T/S specs * Front of box has feature highlights (yes I know I have an error on there -- too late to catch it!) * Tweeters ready to roll ---------- Dimensions : ---------- I will have some more pictures coming up soon as well as everything completely wraps up at the factory; currently just awaiting final packing and pick-up by my freight company. ---------- The 60-watts PER SIDE rating is designed around 8-hours continuous testing at 20-20,000 Hz with the entire set connected (mid, tweeter, and crossover) -- with any smart usage of an HPF filter the power handling goes up quite a bit. Keep in mind that a power rating is only as good as the conditions it was made under : It takes 4x the excursion for each octave DOWN in response to maintain the same output level -- so assuming a brick wall HPF at 40 hz that is 4x less excursion right there than our rated power level With a decent x-over anywhere from 50-80 Hz you are on track to run significantly more power. I run two channels of a 200.4 on my set crossed at 50 Hz @ 24 dB -- any sane level of listening is just fine. Most folks will likely be crossing over @ 80 Hz and 100+ watts per side is no issue at all for *almost* any user. Also note MOST ratings you see on components are BOTH sides combined. I don't feel like that is an honest way to rate a set at all so I've done it differently. I also do not want to confuse everyone with an "official" conditional rating of "100-watts... well if you use X crossover at X dB per octave" -- so an absolutely worst case rating has been applied.

sa 12 question
sundownz replied to RobertR's topic in Sundown Audio - GREAT Amps/Subs! GREAT Customer Service!
One is an older motor -- that piece is the aluminum air-flow director / pole ID shorting ring. You can use them together. -
As of now -- none of our motors are linear to 60mm. Of course "not linear" doesn't mean someone can't force it to go that far. A Z v.3, for example, allows up to 47.5mm before the coil exits the gap on a stock coil and with the pole extension can get into the 50s before totally running out of steam as a coil will still push for a while after leaving the gap. We had one customer actually bottom a Z v.3 18" out -- which takes that full 47.5mm using "only" the 9.25" spider pack (which will now be available on our 12s -- and the 15s even bigger). So there is a nice cushion in there for the soft parts -- will relieve a TON of force from the triple joint, cone base, surround, and spider landing as it won't be tugging on anything even when pushed past what the motor can do. Also why I am working on a Z v.4 design with additional clearance as well In most "big boy" woofers based on 4 and 12-spoke frames you run into HARD spider or soft part limits well before the motor and coil are done -- which is when you see triple joint failures, spiders pulling off the frame, torn surrounds, etc. But we do have the option to push for linearity up to these new limits (which we will be doing as time goes on) -- of course we lose our safety cushion but that is what happens at the edge of performance

Yessir -- that is the 10" cone tooling It's designed to support a full 50mm one-way excursion. The 12" is even larger; supporting 55mm and the 15" is biggest supporting 60mm one-way. Also tooling an adapter for the 18" 6-spoke for a 257mm spider (same as our new 15 basket) and the same size surround as the new 15" for 60mm one-way. So a full suite of 10/12/15/18 cones and surrounds

No, just forgot, must have answered the same question somewhere else. Anyway -- the test is 20-20,000 Hz full range with the entire set going (mid, tweeter, and crossover) We got a pass up to 135 watts per side for 8 hours -- and a mechanical fail at 150 watts at 1 hour. With any HPF on there will be an easy 150+ watts per side.

The passives are fairly simple 12dB networks. Early on in the development I was looking into passives with substantially more bells and whistles but I opted for a more simple approach with fewer passive parts in the signal path -- I've tended to like this approach more in my experience and feedback from customers, dealers, and distributors indicated that the passives wouldn't be utilized by most buyers (we are looking into offering the set a-la-carte for this reason). Cone and dust cap are aluminum -- break up doesn't occur until ~10k or so on it. I'll do some testing on the tweeter terminals as well and check that out.

The samples arrived while I was out of town -- back now and on to the photos ! Weights : 10" 12-spoke : 1.7 lbs 10" Sundown : 4 lbs 12" 12-spoke : 2.3 lbs 12" Sundown : 5 lbs 15" 12-spoke : 3.4 lbs 15" Sundown : 7.9 lbs Not a finely calibrated scale so within a few tenths. * THICK rim -- no more cracked rim with over-tightened screws or with a super heavy motor. * THICK base -- no worries about bolts pulling through even with motors 2-3x heavier than we use now. ----- Still awaiting our new cones and surrounds to arrive... then we can do some building and show off what these can do ! ----- Mocked up on a motor with our new spacer ring... very similar to the Z v.3 18" spacer but the ID matches our new frame base and this one is a bit thicker to allow a bit more air flow as the new frames have more displacement potential. The same spacer works on all sizes 10/12/15 as well. * Inner air passage on spacer * Outer air passage * This is a 12" frame and motor mock-up; proportionately looks alot like the SA-8 v.2
