The amps are in California at the moment from our current update (just now) -- they should arrive at our shop shortly after CES. I know some people have been anxiously awaiting this ! Here are a few pics of a complete product from the factory :

I will be out of town from January 7th to 17th this year for CES and another business trip on the west coast. I will be back to work on January 18th. Small ported box tuned low is where it's at Or a little PR box like I have in my car -- the PR destroys the 30s region -- we've found ported has more output from 40-80 away from actual tuning but uses up alot more total space due to the big port.

You will want 0.5 to 0.75 cubic feet tuned to 30 to 35 hz for these. Displacement is ~0.1 cube

They motor and coil are the same as the 8s so we rate them 100 RMS -- depending on how low you play them more or less is appropriate.

Wanted to see what the xmax will be on this little monster? Will these also have the nice white sundown logo in the middle? Love the added stitching! The Klippel report contains the linear x-max figure -- which is 15.8mm one-way for reference. Actual movement before hurting anything is going to be over 25mm one-way.

This is the first v.2 prototype to leave the immediate Sundown testing group other than to be Klippel tested So hopefully Steve has fun with it !

Not much has changed at 1 ohm.

Newest production run arrived a few weeks ago -- we changed the output FETs to the same parts the newest 3500Ds are using (more powerful) and made a few other small tweaks. 0.5 ohm performance is now just as good as the v.1 1500D while maintaining the slightly better 1 ohm performance that we had already achieved on the v.2 model. I don't have any 1500D v.1s around the shop right now so I'm using previously tested data : 1500D v.1 POWER : 1970 Watts AMP VOLTAGE (measured) : 49.25 V AMP CURRENT (calculated) : 40 A ACTUAL IMPEDANCE (calculated) : 1.23 ohms SUPPLY VOLTAGE : 12.85 V 1500D v.2 POWER : 2030 Watts AMP VOLTAGE (measured) : 47.4v V AMP CURRENT (calculated) : 42.8 A ACTUAL IMPEDANCE (calculated) : 1.11 ohms SUPPLY VOLTAGE : 13.3 V So essentially identical performance within margin of error now on 0.5 ohm operation -- which is great since the v.2 is 1.6" shorter than the v.1 model was ! I'll have to get some 16v testing done too -- but I may wait until I actually have a v.1 model 1500D around to do it head to head. I'm sure I'll get one traded in again eventually.

Frame = basket = the part that is usually steel or aluminum that holds the parts of the speaker. If you want to use your sub daily get the regular coil -- we call them SPL coils because they are for SPL.

I made a Dual-1 8-layer aluminum SPL coil unit for Sean with an extra spider... FS was 59Hz after some break-in so NOT good for a daily application. Due to the new ultra linear spider we have to get the FS starting out closer to the burp frequency as we lack the shift in CMS that causes FS rise with a less linear spider. Best score to date of 152.4 "outlaw" style with 3kw clamped power -- the most we've ever put to an SA-8 to date. The sub was really only at about 1/2-2/3 stroke as well -- where the old SA-8s were hitting the triple joint on the top plate before this point. We are very pleased as Sean's car mysteriously lost around 2dB a while back and we've had to come up with other things to gain that back... and now we've actually topped the old score without ever fixing whatever the mystery problem is (as we still don't know). Just for good measure we also plan to test with two spiders (standard) and the SPL coil to see if we really needed the extra spider. We also plan to try adding more power since we have more stroke left.
