  1. Car Audio Classifieds -- Part I of this project from April 2010. Continued from last year... since we proved the prior box worked so well even made from super low grade plywood we finally got around to making one from genuine Russian 13-ply birch plywood. Derrick was up for some testing yesterday and was able to stay up here to work on this box for me today -- on to the pictures : * Back wall cut -- have some weight on the port to hold the glue down for a bit as it will be permanently attached from the inside. * High strength 3M Epoxy glue to hold it in.
  2. Just in last night -- soft parts and spacers are done !!! * Our surround tooling was modified a bit for the wider surround landing on our new frame. More glue surface area to the frame! * Custom gasket with our logo to fit our new frame. * Modified magnet boot to fit the revised motor structure * Venting spacer like the big brother SA-10/12/15 * Custom tooled ring for our spaced spider setup (notice through bolt holes for the steel bolt-on ring) * New custom tooled spider - 10mm wider than before! With DUAL round leads -- we mean business! ----- Prototypes should be done next week... then we'll have them early next month. Once the prototypes are built up we can get an idea of the final cost on these guys.
  3. Congrats to Jon Kennedy for winning IASCA Southeast Regionals SQ in the PRO class with a pair of SA-8s -- he is a part of Team First Amendment. He also won a Bass Boxing challenge presented by Team Epsilon/PPI against Chad Romano -- a friendly challenge, of course! They plan to continue the friendly challenge at SBN this year  Jon runs PPI amplifiers and an old school Boston 3-way set. I am going to get some more details from him on the actual bass boxing scores and the install but for now I'll share the photos I have -- the box is a 4th order that fits under his truck seats.
  4. I've been driving around with the first prototype for some time now and I really do enjoy it quite a bit -- I haven't made one with the "beefier" coil yet but I believe that it will really perfect the sub and will likely be what I offer when these go up for sale... once I get a moment to work on my own stuff again I'll build one with the other coil to test. I intend to make these publicly available for sale once the next run of NS v.2 motors arrives.
  5. Indeed -- they seem to get around. We still do lots of business on used / old Nightshade v.1 re-cones.
  6. I am not planning any sales on Nightshades in the near-term future.
  7. Unless you are powering subwoofers at the lowest load the amp can handle 150-amps is fine.
  8. If it's a 12" you can test in 1.6 -- I'd be a bit cautious with a 10" as that is 3x what they like.
  9. At this time I have no plans to offer custom caps. We can attach a custom cap made elsewhere by request if it's sent in.
  10. Parts are all here... as we start making them we'll get more finalized specs on each size and coil configuration. * All of the cones together * 18" Cone * 15" Cone * 12" Cone (woops... got it dirty) * 10" Cone All cones have a stitched surround. ----- * Upper left (18" - 9 1/4") -- Upper right (15" - 8 3/8") -- Bottom (10/12" - 7") Z v.3 15s and 18s will run the long coils (60-65mm) -- we'll have shorter ones for the 10s and 12s (50mm) to keep mass balance in check (will risk some ticking with the longer coils). All of them are beefy 8-layer aluminum USA made voice coils on black aluminum formers. * 15 / 18" coil * 10 / 12" coil (NS v.1 equivalent coil)
  11. Undecided on that at this time... as we already have two lines of 8s.
  12. Most of them should go out by early next week -- except maybe 12D2 which may not arrive until the end of next week.
  13. Grabbed a 10" right off of the QC test bench for some photos :
  14. Back and top plate are done -- these are very similar to the "v1.75" unit I sent over to Pulse Car Audio a while back except the pole is 10mm taller.
  15. Sale is running until the 31st ! Now is the time to jump on these deals
  16. SD-2 container due on Thursday -- so the pre-order is now closed. This means we'll be shipping them out next week as we have another container due Friday so will likely not get much shipping done that day.
  17. It is totally normal for amps to get warm and/or slightly hot -- if they are not shutting off chances are you are fine. Amps are typically, at best, 65-75% efficient under ideal conditions so the rest goes into the casing as heat. If you have Class A/B amps they can be as low as 20% efficient at low output levels.
  18. As with our lower lines (lower power than Z series) assembly is done at our build house in China. Each woofer is hand tested and examined for QC as well upon arrival at our shop : The Z v.2 (and upcoming v.3) as well as the the NS v.1 and now v.2 have final assembly at our facility in NC.
  19. I expect the SA-8 v.2 to be in stock around the first of next year.
