  1. So it's not a total waste I took some pictures of the Type-R after we blew it... Brandon took the hammer to it before I got many "before" pictures *laughs* It is worth nothing that you cannot remote the Type-R motor from the frame as far as we could tell. * Around the edges you can see where air vents to the outside in the slits between the top plate. * The special curve on the pole flattens BL * One piece frame / shorting ring assembly... the magnet was busted out to see this... magnet is multiple V shaped pieces.
  2. Well here it is... I was very sad that it didn't last longer thermally but I am still impressed with the engineering put into the motor of the new Type-R : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=os4TZTpLNSI "Done to compare with SA-12 results... we dialed in power as close as we could but the Type-R didn't last long. Few samples of actual power applied : 28 seconds = 497 watts / 51 seconds = 667 watts / 1 minute 18 seconds = 717 watts -- woofer didn't last much longer when exposed to a hair over 700 watts. Conclusion... SA-12 coil cooling is more effective."
  3. A bit saddened... the brand new Alpine Type-R failed after about 1.5 minutes of the same testing (as close as we could get it anyway). I'll put the videos up after lunch for that.
  4. We get creative from time to time =) Glad you like the 4500s!
  5. This is the voltage adjustment rig - Brandon's custom creation
  6. Testing to see how well it keeps the coil temperature down by seeing how much power compression we get. Quoted from video : "Testing our new "woofer power test" rig... we have an adjustable voltage knob on the wall socket to get the power level we want. For the first 2 minutes or so we are trying to read on the "power" setting on the clamp but it didn't want to cooperate so I changed over to simply amperage and voltage afterward. At 2:20 we have 11.64A/61.6V for 717 watts... after a full 4 minutes and 45 seconds at 7:05we still have 11.19A so the sub is still seeing 689 watts. So we are seeing VERY little power compression even above rated power on a pure 60 Hz sine wave after 7 full minutes -- which is not even taking advantage of the air cooling as much as a lower frequency." I'll use this data to examine how my upcoming tweaks to the cooling system work. Pretty boring video... but I figured people would get mad if I edited it in any way
  7. Building a pair right now... on that note - I really do not plan to make any more of these until I get the spiders I'm designing for 10s as it is a bit of a pain in the butt to make these! In any event - someone talked me into making them a pair so here are a few pics :
  8. He is horrible... I hate every song he's ever done... I use the term "song" loosely as it's more of a conglomeration of stupid crap that doesn't make any sense. I think I do hate Lil Wayne more... but only because of his horrible attempts at "singing" a rock "song" - TERRIBLE.
  9. Just tried the same thing with a brand new Type-R... a D4 model even (this is a D2 SA)... already started to break the triple joint.
  10. Yep - track 18 on Bass Mekanik 5.0 We use track 17 to test amps
  11. The power clamp reads in kW -- so 0.90, for example, is 900 watts. I kept playing it for 5 or 6 more iterations of the track after the video as I always measure T/S on at least one woofer per run to make sure everything is on track. I've already measured this one once but I've been breaking it in more to measure again
  12. Sorry... the TR55 will not hold a candle to the SA-12. The TR55-12 has a 1.75" coil for starters... TR75 would be a little closer but I would put the SA-12 up against it any time
  13. We may have to get someone with lots of mids and highs to test it for us *cough cough*
  14. Little bit of clamping : All channels LOADED for the test @ 1 ohm per (2 ohms bridged on the clamped channels) -- 60 Hz tone played. Bridged channels 1 + 2 clamped. 820 Watts 62 V 13.2 A @ 4.7 ohms So 410 per channel @ 2.35 ohms We didn't measure voltage but based on other testing it should be dropping to the high 11s to low 12s. It certainly exceeds expectations
  15. We don't have enough mids around here *laughs*
  16. Loaded down to 1 ohm per channel doing some testing.
  17. Just a little tip - it may be easier to buy a new frame than try to get the bolt down ring off the SA-8 frame on the new ones. I do have frames in stock for them. Plus side... the spider will NOT be coming off any time soon if you don't want it to. Here is one we removed this morning : As you can imagine it didn't come off easily. It is glued under the spiders, bolted through the frame, and epoxied on top.
  18. SA-10s will run in 0.6 sealed - that is quite large for the SA-8
  19. If your amp plays fine with the woofer connected just play it - something screwy is going on with the DMM.
