  1. DO NOT run them sealed... will be awful. 1.5-2.0 on 12s 1.0-1.5 on 10s Ported

  4. I've never worried about matching batteries... even AGM and regular Lead Acid cells. Never had any issues... the parasitic draw may become an issue if the car is parked for LONG periods but not in a daily driver.
  5. Amps will be done in two days... around a month early (they are on the ball) -- so I now expect these late JUNE instead of July. Therefore pre-ordering will end sooner... around June 20th.

  7. I actually have a tracking # for the truck now -- called them up this morning and they are in South Carolina today so 99% likely I will get them tomorrow.
  8. D2 coils / 3 Hard 10" Spiders (PSI) / Nightshade Cone * Starting rear part of spider glue joint * Finished up * Extra glue bead around the perimeter of the spider * Another shot. * CA glue covering all the exposed former wrap material as well as bottom of cone joint. * Top triple joint Dust cap is a simple plain black poly cap. Sub performs quite well free air on our 1500D on the bench - looks like this beast would handle a ton more power mechanically and thermally
  9. Swapped to a 2 spider Z v.2 and found my frequency is actually 54 hz with this box : 920 watts = 148.6 1210 watts = 149.3 1510 watts = 150.1 * Sub cool down for 10 minutes * 1890 watts = 150.9 2570 watts = 152.2 2940 watts = 152.4 * Sub cool down for 10 minutes * 3320 watts = 153.0 3650 watts = 153.1 * Sub cool down for 10 minutes * 3850 watts = 153.4 So... SPL per watt is up now. Tried a few things to get my peak back to 53 hz with no luck yet.
  10. Oh yah... rounded all outside edges of the box and around the port mouth this morning -- zero change in SPL.
  11. Been playing with it a bit and still not quite up to Magic Box v.1 performance... need to figure out what works best in this box. Interestingly the 3 Spider Z v.2 was louder than a 3 Spider Nightshade v.1 in this box at equal power (as three NS spiders is a bit less stiff over stroke they are louder in the 15" v.1 enclosure - 2 Z v.2 spiders was roughly equivalent per watt). This leads me to believe I may need to build several 18s to see what configuration is the loudest. Plan to build a 2 spider model and a 4 spider model and run them all to see what happens.
  12. Yes. I plan to do so shortly. Just picked up the only fully assembled 18" I had laying around for initial testing.
  13. It is close to 4 cubes after all displacements.
  14. Results so far with Z v.2 18" D2 with 3 Spiders (too stiff for this box): 420 watts = 144.6 520 watts = 145.5 660 watts = 146.4 830 watts = 147.2 1040 watts = 148.0 1310 watts = 149.0 1620 watts = 149.8 1790 watts = 150.1 1960 watts = 150.4 2340 watts = 151.1 * Let Sub Cool for about 15 minutes * 2530 watts = 151.6 3110 watts = 152.4 3390 watts = 152.7 3530 watts = 152.9 3860 watts = 153.1 4160 watts = 153.4 All results @ 53 Hz / dB Drag on the dash sealed mic position on the TL.
  15. Took some pics of the process -- thanks to Brandon for helping me get it done in a timely fashion. * Basic shell complete. We are using mostly cabinet grade Oak plywood (3/4") with some 7/8" ply as well (bottom panel and one layer of top baffle). * I like to use lots of screws... 2" long models. * Temporary guide setup to build the port straight * Outline walls of the port... ready for flexible ply. * Flexible ply installed to make the flare. * Coming together ! * Filling in across the flare with strips of wood. * Wood filler in the gaps. * Fiberglass cloth and resin applied. * Top baffles going on. * Hole cut with counter-sink * In the Jeep ! --- I installed the only 18" I had laying around in there and it is a hair behind the old Magic Box per watt so far... but this 18" had an extra hard suspension which is terrible in a box this small. So... based on results so far I expect this box to pull ahead of the old Magic Box once the correct spider configuration is used. It seems to be functionally nearly identically just with more cone and port area (and a bit more volume).
  16. Waiting on word on the amps -- should be here in the following days.
  17. Everyone seemed really interested so I started it up -- even added an introductory May discount on the pre-order
  18. Pre-ordering NOW OPEN... pre-order runs until July 4th or while supplies last. ETA is the end of July -- as always this is subject to delays and is not set in stone! COST : $315 shipped in the continental USA - Regular MAP Pricing is $375 * Contact me for AK and HI orders * USA ONLY SALE IF YOU ORDER BY the end of May it will only be $300 each shipped in the continental 48 states! TO ORDER PAYPAL ME AT [email protected] with Subject "SAX-1200D Pre-Order" or talk to your favorite online or local Sundown Audio dealer. ----- This is an all new board tooling developed just for Sundown Audio. RATINGS: 1200 x 1 @ 1 ohm 720 x 1 @ 2 ohms 360 x 1 @ 4 ohms ** -- Clamp testing coming soon... will post in this thread. These amps CAN be strapped. They are NOT 16v stable like the SAZ line and long term 0.5 ohm testing has not been completed. They have 4 awg power input terminals and 3x 40-Amp fuses. Effective real world power is expected to be significantly higher than the SAZ-1000D! Dimensions : 252(W) x 58(H) x 310(L)mm (9.92" x 2.28" x 12.2") ----- * SAZ-1000D on left / SAX-1200D on right -- dual transformers and output inductors + new more powerful MOSFETs... all N channel outputs vs. N-P in the 1000D. * Side by side with 1000D for size reference. * Close up shot.
  19. It means it won't run 16 volts... initial testing of this model at 0.5 went well but I won't say they are as good as the SAZ at 0.5 until long term testing has been done.
  20. Probably not... besides the ability for the coil to handle more heat. You are talking maybe 3-4 Hz Fs difference which is not tremendous... also gains a couple tenths in SPL from lowered mass.
  21. I haven't decided on what to do with the SAE line just yet... we will see.
