  1. will adding a line driver to a 2 volt pre out HU make the sub louder? i'm not EXACTLY sure what they do but i have a pretty good understanding
  2. would that cause the wires on the meter to overheat fromt oo much current or no?
  3. that'd work but then it would always be on ..... if i were you i'd just follow the instructions!! i think they're usually power ground and +switched? just tap into your HU wiring harness
  4. you know strangley enough i have had the same th ing happen to me ... i rememer it .. so i'm interested in this too maybe beacause of voltage drop?
  5. you should unhook the sub and play a 40 or 50 hz test tone, then just stick the votl meter wires (plus or minus doesn't matter) into the speaker outputs on the amplifier. i wouldnt' turn the gain all the way up ... if your DMM isn't reading than make sure it's set on the correct AC voltage. for example, the DMM i use has different "sensitivity" settings aka 20 volts, 200 volts, etc. makle sure if you want an output voltage of say 30 amps it's set on the 200 volts. does that make sense? hope this helps
  6. Tonight! at 5 i will add them to member builds/showoff
  7. okay cool i'll turn it down to 1/4 and just enjoy it. thanks guys, thanks steve
  8. Update: OKay so I set the gains Wed morning. 34.0 volts AC, it was about 1/4 gain maybe less. I have since turned it up to just under 1/2 gains because I wanted it louder. I put an Amp-meter (uses the magnetic B field so you just put it aruond your power wire) and its taking in approx. 80 amps at almost full tilt (as fult tilt as i go with my voltage which isn't anywhere near actual full tilt) its 84% effecient (My T1K) so that means its about 7-800 watts output at 1 ohm, 12-12.5 volts. My question is - the T1k has a birth sheet at 1600 watts. If I wanted closer to 1400 wats versus the 7-800 i'm getting now, do I turnt he gain up to more like 3/4? I DON'T want to clip the amp but w/o an o scope how do i tell? hope this all made sense! Thx
  9. yeah i PM him all the time too he checks it every few days in my experience, or quicker
  10. looks badass bro!!! i'ma hit you up soon see whatsup with me coming up there. with all this talk about the camry you gotta get a listen its not 8 18s but it works for me BTW if by some smalllllllll chance you read this get a look at the buyer/seller feedback area brah looking AWESOME as always
  11. Steve: I got the amp from Steve, or I should say through Steve. He talked me through the pros of going RF vs. Sundown, and the cons (Mainly price) and allowed me to make an educated decision. When I was ready he ordered it before my money even was sent. My money got there right when he picked the amp up from RF - he shipped it Monday (2 days ago) and it got there Tuesday MORNING. He was very helpful the whole time and got it to me quick and without hassle. And remember guys - he doesn't get anything out of this - he's just doing it because he's a nice guy ... he had no incentive to try as hard as he did. Steve, thank you thank you thank you. Your builds are perfect (literally) your attitude is optomistic and your willingness to help others with a small (big to me ) build is unknown. Thank you! David: David built my box for me, for a cheap price. He didn't just build the box - he built it right. He gave me build pictures and he did what I asked. It turned out AWESOME it sounds very deep, hard hitting, smooth and low. What else could you ask for in a box? Resined the inside, 45'd, put the ports in, carpeted, the whole 9 yards. Supreme work being done. Again, his work and attention to detail is amazing. Great work David - I love the box, and thank you for welcoming me to your home. Good luck on the Jetta - she's looking great Rusty: So, I go to order a sub. I order it Wednesday. Expecting it next week. Guess what comes THURSDAY? Rusty's customer service is awesome. Before I ordered it I talked with him about what I want and need, and he spent the time (about a week of PMs) with me to explain what I want and why I want it - and how he can get it to me. I don't have enough hours on the sub to rate it - initial comments are AWESOME but I will leave more feedback once I get it all dialed in. Thanks Rusty! Your work is great, your product is great, and your customer service is awesome! ^^^ These guys ^^^ are the ones that make car audio what it is .... Thanks all .... I'll clean that wiring up tonight Future: Look for feedback for Mechman for batteries and/or alternator(s)
  12. Got the amp in today, i'm going to hook it up around 9 am tomorrow. will take pics! allll wires ran everything is ready .... I'm about to make a enw thread with some questions
  13. I got my DMM all ready to go to set the output voltage (AC) to 34 for ~1200 wRMS @ 1 ohm .... The tutorial in the amp section here says to unhook the subwoofer and hook the DMM up right to the amp - and play a 50HZ test tone. Now, is this bad for the amp? To play music with no sub attatched? please advise Thanks
  14. this isn't my area of expertise (Do i even have one? ) But i'll bump it for someone who knows ....
  15. yeah true guys, it may not be ideal but it sure as hell looks OEM
  16. look into alpine type-s or type-rs ...they are decent in price (type s's are better) and sound okay to really good, dependign on how you cross / power / eq them ...
  17. you can find some ok deals on speakers at crutchfield, speaker wire is cheap ..... amps like maybe 100-200 bucks you can get a real decend M&H 50x4 i would install it yourself .. just pull the door panel off (you can google to see how usuually tutorials are somewhere for ur car) and put the speaker in! run some wire and you're done
  18. yep yep got it - thanks everyone, thanks expo
