  1. I've got this problem, Sounded like coil scrape... so took the dust cal off and have a look... it looks as if the former had slightly bent which was scraping on the pole piece. Seems to go for a bit after a good pound but gets so annoying on low volume... tbh when its really low that sub stops moving all together and the other carrys on. Any one know what causes this? Also that sub one of the coils reads 1.4ohm not 0.7ohm.
  2. Level 5 and level 4.... non of them have basket cooling. The level 4 has a bigger pole vent, about double the size of a level 5 but that's it.
  3. Hi all, just wondering why the 18" baskets don't have any cooling vents like the 15" or 12" models? They only have the pole vent. Is there any way venting could be added to a basket when its due for recone? Heres a pic of the current 18" basket, It has Vents RustyWCA
  4. The testing format I compete in is called propper droppers, we test at the head rest at 40hz, 33hz, 25hz, 20hz and a peak... the scores are them averaged out to give a final score. I've used 35hz tuning with 18sq" and my average score was 151.5 (peak 154.9), I then blocked up half the port area 9sq" tuned to 25hz and averaged a 152.5 (155.2 peak) and all my other scores rose too. I know you guys always tune mid to high 30s with massive ports but I haven't had good results with it, as I say I've had better results from using 9sq" per cube with uber low tuning.... and it sounded better, tighter, shifted more air, smoother. I think I'm gonna use 10-14sq" next. The car is a vw lupo, tiny car .
  5. They are getting 3k+ each so over the rated power handling. I think ill be able to give them 7cube each...anyone think that's too big?
  6. 2 sundown 1500d's per sub @ 1.4 strapped. 4 amps total.
  7. Hi all, I'm rebuilding my wall soon, Im thinking about doing a drivers side port tuned to around 28hz. Kit will be level 5 18s, 6k. What box volume and port area would you suggest for a flat wall with drivers side port? I've used them in 5.5cuft each but if I can gain more output with volume I will do it, as long as it retains a flatish response. Cheers dudes.
  8. 20" x 1.5" ..... 8.6sq" of port per cube small to you guys but I've had better results using small ports than huge ones.
  9. Yeh boi! Tested fitted the lvl4.... tight like a tiger! It's like it was made to fit What you think? Peace out
  10. Evening all, Been working on this on and off for a couple of days. The box is for a DC Level 4 15" D0.7, its going into a punto boot. Will be running a Hifonics 1608D so should see about 1k @ 1.4ohm. Box spec is 3.5cuft tuned to 33hz, firing against the tailgate. Jon and Scott thurlow will be finishing the install with trim panels ect. Started with the port Round over anyone Baffle - 36mm Zee box Now that's not good for air flowww is it!? Ahhh..... Flush cut ftw!
  11. The only way to bottom it out is to lose your suspension. You can however overthrow the pole on extreme excursion which sounds alot like tapping the back plate. Once you hear and know that sound you know to turn it down Ah right I see, so if the suspension breaks it will back plate? Otherwise the noise I've heard is overthrow? This doesn't do damage like back plating does it? Cheers buddy.
  12. Awesome stuff... but am I doing something wrong as I've bottomed my level 5s out in the past?
  13. 2 18" level 5s walled tuned to 25hz 4 sundown 1500ds @ 0.7ohm 155.2db @ 32hz at the headrest, door open. On a 180a alt and 4 100ah 6v cells .
  14. How do all, finally twisted his got Jason on the bandwagon with a couple of 18" dc level 4s for his lupo! The earthquake subs sounded awesome but just wasn't going it for him so he's gone for the brutes. Kit list 2 18" DC level 4s (d2s, double tinsel lead upgrade) 2 SPL Dynamics S2000 amps, 2000w each 180a alt 2 kinetic batteries, bluetop up front 0awg throughout, tb3 PU glue Expanding foam White leather vinyl Copydex 1" mdf box with external bracing, 2" baffle. 11cuft tuned to 29hz. We decided to go for 1" mdf externally braced with 1.5"x3.5" timber.... the baffle will be 2" thick with a vertical internal brace. 4hours work today got us this Port Bit of a over Jason had already fitted the false floor and foamed it in No mdf roof.... YET ...... some 3 layers of sound deadening fitted to the roof The wall has to be removable so he has stuck tape on the areas to be foamed surrounding the box That's all for today folks.
  15. What causes this? Mine have done the same? Is it box design or too much power or clip?
  16. Easy and cheap way is to run cable down from your amp speaker terminals to the front of the car, then hook up your multi meter set to ac and play until you reach your clipping voltage. Or even wire in a permanent volt meter to the dash.
  17. Alright Jason. Now your in boot boomers extreme why don't you add some batteries into the rear foot wells. I don't think the little hawkers are up to it tbh, I've got 8 of the yellow ones and they just cope with 4 1500ds. Or is this for the metro
  18. Hey, IM looking to recone my lvl5's soon and have been searching around the site and noticed that everyone is using the new stealth coils... Im just wondering what the difference is with these new coils? Also They need reconing due to snapped tinsel leads, would the flat leads help to prevent this? cheers fellas.
  19. Are all you guys scoping the systems? If so what tones are you using? 50hz 0dB?
