  1. i really need to get rid of my prefab box=(

  2. What you mean by loud bass music? Lol
  3. I use -10 not sure of the difference between the 2..I'm pretty sure if you play dj billy e and that stuff then -5
  4. crap. will be re-tuning then. I thought it was better to tune while you were at 14.4. But that makes sense. Not super worried, it's only 500w What is the difference from tuning with car on or off? Only thing I see is if you play without the car running then tuning with car off would would be better. I looked thru the manual and did not see anything about that.. The only difference would be your voltage. Which with the car off is like 12.7. With the car on its wherever your alt charges at which is around 14.4. The reason people will tune with the car off is to account for voltage drop. Cuz when the voltage drops your amp will tend to be easier to distort, clip cuz of the lower voltage. If you tune with voltage already low. Then the stronger voltage means less likely to clip Think of it like filling a cup. When you tune with the car off, it's like having the cup 80% full when you walk back to the couch. When you tune with the car on, it's like filling the cup to the brim and then trying to walk back to your couch. Voltage drop in this situation would represent stairs in your walk to the couch. Well said lol I don't have much voltage drop at all but I will go out and re tune with the car off, that's not a prob. So I assume the gain will be less then when the car is running? I also used the -10db track.

  6. I'm sure people will say the same about the vm-1. It's not as accurate as my stinger volt meter ect. Just bc it says SMD. I've had my gains set with an o-scope and it took my friend about half hr or so. Plus I wasn't a big fan of it. Noticed a better difference with the dd-1 plus a lot of ppl where saying how 150$ is to much for parts that cost 30$ and cheap plastic. Well it works better and it's well build. Where a good o-scope would cost 4 grand? Yeah ppl dumb as hell.
  7. I wanna know how that guy got -10db into +10db. Bc what he is saying that Steve is an idiot for using -10 when a lot of ppl use it and had no issues. I'm very surprised that ppl talk shit on Steve as well as his products
  8. i had no idea you had to tune with engine off=( damnit
  9. im gonna say someone did not read the manual and just fucked it up..dont see how the dd-1 can cause probs
  10. if his unit works better how come its not on the market. or why havent we heard of it? if you get back in caco ask that question LOL i will..i didnt wanna post the name of the forum. some other ppl as well dont like it...what he uses is just a o-scope that he rigged up, that is what it looks like to me
  11. here is something else he said..im kinda ranting right now lol just got my hands on an SMD DD-1 to see whats what. The DD-1 is not what it is cracked up to be. So much for "1%" distortion, the one that i have triggers at more like >5%!! Yet to test it precisely but there is a lot visual flattening of the sinewave before it triggers (my own tester triggers at ~0.5% before anything significant can be seen on the scope ). Perhaps it is being confused by the ragged distortion that my test amplifier (A Tripath 2024 T-amp) makes. The RCA lead supplied also seems a bit ghetto quality compared to the rest of the unit. Both disappointed with the DD-1, and pleased that mine performs a lot better.
  12. thats what i mean, dd-1 is amazing..i just dont see why many ppl dont like it, he said a lot more stuff as well as other ppl.. i dont think -10db will cause up to 10db of clipping or it wouldnt be on there..
  13. i was on a different forum, looking around and someone posted about the dd-1. really a lot of negetive things said about it..here is one message post about it...this does not make sense to me tho, seems he dont know what he is talking about..i can post more info if you want.. You can set up gains with the amp unloaded - results may vary, it's generally ok on lower powered amps where the limitation is the voltage rail inside the amp. Probably not the best idea for high powered setups where voltage droop is a real issue. In all of Steve Meades videos he sets up amps unloaded with a DD1. I don't really agree with this since his target market is people with ground pounders... He also uses a -10dB tone (on recommendation from Rockford Fosgate) to set the gains on sub amps which is completely wrong and will cause up to 10dB of clipping (A LOT) when the headunit is at full volume. The bass lines in modern recordings are around -1dB peak, so a 0dB tone should be used to set sub amp gains. For mids that are highpassed above 100Hz you can push it out to about -10dB, and -15 or -20dB for tweeters. Clipping isn't very audible in subs, so he probably doesn't realise what he is doing (that and he is big headed and won't accept that his methodology is wrong). I always get the feeling when watching SMD videos that he doesn't really understand the science behind what is going on.
  14. Lol it def helps put gas in the car and save up for Xmas haha. The shop around here only tunes by ear. They believe the ear can detect distortion lol I tried to help but they kicked me out ;(
  15. I tuned someone's system today and they where shocked on the difference. Made an easy 10bucks:)
  16. I may charge ppl I don't know 10$ to set their gains lol
  17. My girlfriend got me the dd-1 for Xmas and she let me use it today but got to give it back lol anyways. It was packaged nicely, got a pretty sweet sticker with it and its just a very nice solid device. It took me 5min to set my gains! Although I used -5db for the head unit instead of 0db track:( fixed that tho. My results are better then I thought. Sounds better, seems to be louder:) I'm very impressed with this thing. Thanks Steve and tony for an awesome product
  18. That's my bad guys lol I was using my phone. I know it wasn't a girl. Was a rough night lol Sorry rob:(
  19. after reading this thread, i looked at every video you have put up on youtube and there is at least 1 rude comment from some dick head..it pisses me of reading it bc they dont know you at all...some kid said he hated steve for being so cocky? i have yet to hear that but you worked hard for what you have and a lot of us have.... kids bitch bc they ask a vs thread or something retarded and it gets locked and they blame someone else, their the dumbasses lol
  20. That's all I needed man. Simple short answer I thought it was but wanted to make sure. Thanks
  21. Well I wasn't sure on how important it was to upgrade that wire.. Battery is grounded to strut tower
  22. How important is this wire? I did the big 3 but still gotta run 1/0g from alt to battery. My volts drop to 13.8 lowest while driving. The alt is gonna be a pain to get to so if its not a big deal and not gonna do much do I have to run the alt to battery? I do have an extra battery in the back as well
