no no, the voice coil just screws right out and a voice coil can be popped right back in, its a unique feature with the Boston SPG555's. The box I had built from my local car audio store Extreme Audio they built the box for SQ rather than SPL because my tiny 1997 Nissan Altima SE couldn't fit the box built for SPL with these subs.

lol, I bought them because they are unique and I liked the sound of the 1 they had showcased at my local audio store, and the voice coil replacement is only $40 rather than having to spend $350 on a whole new sub. The peak of each sub is 2000 watts but im only running 1200 on each, hit a 146.7 with an SQ box in a very tiny car. lol

2 Boston SPG555's on 1200 watts each powered by Alpine PDX-M12 amps and the inside speakers are a work in progress but the 4 channel amp is an Alpine PDXF-4. Trunk is dynamated with 2 layers, no rear speakers yet, front speakers are Alpine Type S's.

Holy hell I wish i could get pink floyd to sound like that in my car, hah.
