I feel like for most of us, that how awesome it will be some day, keeps us going. I have changed my components to get the best bang for my buck, but working 40+ hours a week is all I can do, but the damn bills don't stop either. I know all my friends just keep asking when I will have my system installed, I used to say a date, or time frame, but recently I just say soon... I sort of die a little bit inside, because it is not soon enough.

So I bought my subs 1 year ago, and my amp, door speakers, and head unit 2 months ago, and they just sit here in my room. This is all because one thing, my lack of money. I just cannot get enough money together to get more power wire, dist. blocks, speaker wire, etc.... I am starting to get pissed, I just want my truck to have some decent tunes. I cannot be the only one here who has there new equipment just sitting, unused, and there is nothing you can do about it. So far I have been dreaming for one year plus. What do you guys got sitting, just waiting to be used, and it pisses you off that it is. (/Rant Over)

Sounds like a reason to pull you over. I got pulled over for not signaling within 150 before an intersection, I signaled, but I guess not soon enough, I knew the real intentions when the K9 car pulled up. I got a written warning, I think because I was very direct in telling the officer that he or his dog cannot go by my truck. So I if "got heat" because of it, so what, my stereo which will soon be installed will get me even more, because I have been without a decent system for far too long.

I think you are right, I remember reading something about this when I was looking to get an Optima.

If it was a normal lead acid battery, like I over looked last night you would look and see if they where full of the acid solution, or just check the specific gravity of each cell. If it's a absorbed glass mat battery, throw it away, once they are dead, they are junk. They will not hold a good charge, or be able to hold a charge long. Don't waste your time.
-
Start with a slow charge for a day or so, and see what it reads after that. also check each cell to make sure none of them are dry. usually battery's don't like being run down flat like that though.

I know my master cylinder is bad on my Explorer, and it does not do that. if your master cylinder is bad, you will notice that you brake booster no longer have any paint left on it. and that the pedal is always spongy, but never soft, and it won't go to the ground. It sounds to me like you have some air in the lines, just remember that air can be compressed, and liquids like brake fluid cannot.

I think I have found out what I am going to be buying. Home Depot has 250ft 14gauge wire for $77. and my Local best buy has Kicker RCA's for $24. With these two things I think I am getting the best of quality and price. I am still going to stop buy my local shop to see what they have. but if they have nothing then I will be going with the Home Depot, and Best Buy.

I appreciate the concern over being impatient, and making a poor decision buying cheap stuff. But I have been waiting and saving for over a year, and I have almost everything, I will buy quality stuff eventually, but I just want all my stuff hooked up this Friday. I cannot handle the stock radio anymore, the cassette died(I used to use the tape converter), and now I am stuck with only the radio. Trey_Dog650 I was thinking about that, or some in-wall stuff because it is suppose to be more resistant to elements. I will check out Best Buy tomorrow when I go shopping around. I also never thought about Craigslist, I will scan that for the next few days. Also I never really planned on going to Walmart, It was just an example. LOL, (sarcasm)but are you guys really saying that BOSS stereo stuff is garbage???(/sarcasm) LOL

OK, so I am looking for some cheap, but not garbage speaker wire, and RCA cables. but since I, 1 don't want to pay for shipping, and 2 don't want to wait another week for it to get here. I would like it to be bought at a store, such as Walmart, or Radioshack, etc... So what have you used. money, and time are tight so any input would be helpful.

This build is awesome! I really like the air tunnel for cooling down the amps. I would like to see how much it helps. I bet your hands where tired after threading all those holes. Even if it was aluminum, that's a lot of holes. I had to tap one hole to put an O2 sensor in, and it was through steel took about 30 minutes for the one hole. One question though. Since you used bed liner, and it has a texture. doesn't that effect the air flow of the box? I know you rounded off the corners of everything, so the bumps from the bead liner would make the air turbulent, and have an effect on the sound.

Battery Choice, and wiring Questions.

That's a plus because I want a nice clean, good looking, and headache free system. I figure quality parts, are much better then cheap parts. -
Got 2 JBL GT 102D's with no Box....
1996BLKBauer replied to 1996BLKBauer's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
I will take a look and see what I can do. I honestly know nothing about tuning for a certain frequency, or what one to tune a box to. Damn, I was not expecting this. You did all the fun stuff for me. -
Battery Choice, and wiring Questions.
1996BLKBauer replied to 1996BLKBauer's topic in Electrical-battery- Alternators- Wiring
After taking a look at the battery terminals, I honestly like the JL ones a lot more. They look easier to hook up, and will have a better look. I also like the JL fuse holder. I may have to do that. What I will do is measure and see how much a need, and send an Email for a price quote so I know how much I need. Thanks for dealing with my stupid questions. -
I do have to agree, BB are dated, but for me at least it is way better then Android, and only slightly worse then an iPhone. I could care less about have 10,000 games on my phone. I enjoy the speed. My friend recently went from a 8530, and hates his new Droid because he says it takes him 3x longer to type and send a text.

Battery Choice, and wiring Questions.
1996BLKBauer replied to 1996BLKBauer's topic in Electrical-battery- Alternators- Wiring
Well since my Alternator only produces 130amps Maximum I feel that the 4 gauge kit will suit mt needs, considering it is rated for 150amp systems. Even if I want to upgrade later, I would upgrade the alternator first, and then the wiring, but I know I would not be able to afford that anytime soon. I understand that the demand is in the 0 gauge kits, and hey if my truck was up to it I would get that too, but it is not. I would better be safe than sorry with the fuse for the alternator, and for $50 that is cheap insurance. I really appreciate you input once again, and making this so easy for me to decide. One more question before I start saving up for this, what do you think is better the RF, and JL clamps of the Military clamps, I assume there is a price difference as well. I am leaning or the RF, or JL clamps because they seem to have cleaner look. I only really notice 2 things different in the 2 kits, the clamps, and the charging system upgrade does not include the Rockford Fosgate ring terminals. other then that they seem to be the same. -
So I would like to make a box for them. Every box I have ever had before has been a prefabbed box. So since these are old, and not going to be making a huge statement, I just want to make a box for fun to sharpen up my skills. I am sort of up in the air on what to make though. I am 95% sure I want a ported box, because making a sealed box would be too easy. I downloaded the manual for the subs, and they suggested some odd designs for them. one was even like what Steve had planned for the Lexus, where they face each other in opposition. So what do you guys think I should do?
