  1. ...and also given that the enclosure is designed for the low end! I've always been told that you need big power and cone area to have a system that can slump in the lows (20hz and up) but this design definitely proves that false!
  2. Thanks man! I'll take a couple pics of it tomorrow for ya, its not a whole lot to look at, but it's fairly clean for its age and what it is. I've put a fair amount of money into it but most of it isn't visible unless you know what you're looking at. My listening impressions of the system are immediately following the link to the vid. Sounds awesome! Especially given that the system is barely touching 500 watts!
  3. Finally got a new fuse! Old blown mini ANL vs new ANL Finally looking like a normal fuse holder. I HAVE BASS AGAIN! I'll see if I can find a good camera now to take some better vids!
  4. One more note I forgot to add in the listening impressions is that this enclosure slumps all the way down to 20hz with authority, which is AWESOME. I almost kicked myself for not giving pete a 20-40hz passband to design around instead of the 25-45hz passband I originally gave him, but so far this enclosure hasn't disappointed!!
  5. NEW UPDATE I had my first full retard moment of the build (my baffle mistake with measuring wasnt FULL retard lol) yesterday... I disconnected my amp positive wire to cut a section of it out for the alternator positive to battery positive run I had forgot to do of the big 3 and as I was cutting the wire I thought"hmm, maybe I should disconnect this wire from the battery." Literally the second that popped into my head, I completed the cut with my wire cutters and the hot end of the wire dropped on my tailgate, touching one of the metal strip upholstery hold-downs. A small zap rang out and then nothing, I checked the fuse, and sure enough, I had smoked it...my only fuse. Sooooo, no bass until I get the ANL fuse in the mail next week. ALWAYS DISCONNECT WIRES FROM THE BATTERY BEFORE YOU WORK ON THEM. On a more positive note, I also ordered the firewall bushings to finally complete the amp positive and ground runs, as well as another ANL fuse for backup in case I have another full retard moment ha.
  6. Well, after 10+ hrs fighting this effing video to try to figure out how to upload it to youtube, i've given up. It uploaded fine to photobucket, so i'll just post that one. My phone (htc rezound) encodes video in mp4 format (Video: H264 MPEG-4 AVC, Audio: MPEG AAC stereo 44.1k) which should work fine based on youtube's quicktime exporting instructions (which exports as mp4 as well) but for some reason youtube doesn't like it. The video uploads fine, but it cuts out audio halfway through and as it uploads it comes up with an error that says "upload may have video/audio sync issues..." I'll see if I can find another video camera to make new videos. So this vid isn't 1080p, but it'll give you a general idea. http://s1167.photobucket.com/albums/q635/rocketman012346/?action=view&current=VIDEO0002.mp4 Listening impressions: Before I say anything, I should say again that this system, is ONLY 500 watts. Also, my amplifier gain isn't quite up to where it needs to be as I am having a low voltage issue at the amplifier, most likely cause by a poor temporary ground and some possible alternator charging issues. Keep that in mind. WOW. This system DUMPS. Even with the issues and preliminary setup status, it already sounds louder than some of my friends' systems that have twice to three times the power. The audible in-cabin response follows pete's response curve almost exactly. This should quell some of the haters that think his response curves do not represent actual real life in-cabin response, at least in my case. I cannot, however, comment on measured in-cabin response (SPL response at each frequency) since I have no way of testing that. 25hz to 34hz is huuuge, with 27 and 28hz being my favorite so far. There is a slight dip from 34-37hz or so, then its back from 38 all the way to 50 or higher. Now, this dip is only slight, and I think it is more just the point where the bass transitions from the visceral, physical, pressure and air experience of the below-30hz response to the more audible experience of the upper 30's and 40's response. It doesn't physically move a massive amount of air but it certainly feels like it does in the cabin. So far, I have listened to mostly chopped & screwed, and slowed/boosted music, as this is mostly what I will be listening to on this system, and I can without a doubt say that I am very pleased with the result of this design and build.
  7. Well, apparently youtube craps itself when you try to upload .mp4 videos created with an HTC rezound? I'll see if I can convert it or something and upload it tomorrow unless anyone has any insight? This is my first time uploading vids to youtube
  8. I drafted the enclosure design on the top plate as well and marked the places where I put nails in to hold the pink sealing stuff on so I wouldn't hit any of them when pre-drilling the screw holes. And here she is!!! BEAST MODE. Weighs 200lbs+, ~13+/- cubic feet internal volume. MOUTH OF THE BEAST Some more pics. Next post will be a vid or two of the system!
  9. I wanted to make the top removable so I could take the sub out when I sold it and put in the E15 temporarily before I upgrade the whole system. I had some of this insulation stuff that I used to ship the p3 sub to pwk to test so I figured I could try it out and see if it would work to seal the top panel. I used these wide/super thin head trim nails my dad had laying around and I think the whole idea worked pretty well. I haven't felt any leaks around the perimeter of the box, not sure about the inside, but if the outside sealed, I'll bet the internal baffling did as well. Wired the sub down to 1 ohm (dual 2 ohm VC's in parallel) with the Knuconceptz Karma SS 10 gauge wire and ran it through the two baffles with holes cut by a spade bit. Caulked the crap out of the pass-thru's. Since I bought 10 gauge wire, and my sub only accepts up to 10 gauge wire on the voicecoil inputs, I couldn't just twist wire together and stick both in to one voice coil to run another pair to the other voice coil to get a parallel hook up. I had the bright idea to solder them together! Problem is, I didn't even think about the fact that the solder wicks up the wire, so these wires ended up solid all the way to the tip. I had to reheat and hammer them a bunch, then file them down just to get them to fit into the push terminals. Oh well, it is actually easier to put them into the push terminals now compared to the bare wire..
  10. The goods! and part of my big 3. (That Sundown E15 is part of a new project I've been planning for the fall, more on that later!) Running the RCA wires. Battery to amp will come up through here as well, next to the factory rear speaker wire body pass-thru grommet. I had to run that amp power cable along the chassis, nowhere to hide oversized 1/0 in the cabin! My redneck fuse install for the moment until I get the fullsize ANL fuse in the mail. Also, top view of the Big 3 (minus the alternator positive to battery positive, forgot to do that one until today). Fully soldered and shrink wrapped ring terminals. Should last a long time! Amp temporarily here until i get the firewall bushings. Box coming together. The pictures do not do it justice. I am 5' 9" and a fairly muscly 190lbs, and without the internal baffling I could get in that box and close it up with room to spare inside. It's HUGE.
  11. Alright guys, here's more pics: Had to move the table saw outside, 4x8 sheets of mdf are big! The lack of a sufficiently long fence on this portable table saw lead to some somewhat questionable cuts, but I was able to clean most of them up. Everything ended up being within about an 1/8"...not too shabby for what I had to work with! Doing the cross cuts on an OLD radial arm saw my dad got for free some time back. It can make a 17 inch or so cut, so on each cross cut we had to flip the board over to finish it. Wood is cut FINALLY. Took 8hrs with breaks from the time we started strategizing how to cut 4x8 mdf sheets on our limited equipment to time of completion. (Thanks for the help guys!!) Drafted the designs on the bottom piece to help with baffle location. HELPFUL TIP: MEASURE TWICE. The double stack baffle was 3/4" off because I measured from the end of the board instead of the edge of the 3/4" mdf front face. I didn't realize it until I had drilled, glued, and screwed the double stack baffle to the bottom face. Had to back all the screws out, fill the holes, redrill, reglue, and rescrew the baffle. D'OH!!
  12. Hey guys! I've been watching this site and reading y'all's posts for a couple years and I've finally come up with enough money, time, and knowledge to dive headfirst into my first real car audio install. Now, this "real" install may not seem like a whole lot, but given my shoestring college budget and limited funding it's pretty big for me haha. But anyway, enough chit chat, let's get right down to it: I have been planning this build for about 6 months, when I received the plans for the enclosure (early December), but I didn't have the equipment, funding, or time to do it. I FINALLY got down to business and built and installed it over the last couple days. It took about three days and ~50hrs total with a couple of my friends helping to get it all finished. The good stuff: The enclosure is a 6th order series tuned bandpass, designed for one 2007 model Rockford Fosgate P3D215 500 watt sub. The amp powering it is a Rockford Fosgate P700-1BD. The enclosure is designed for audible performance over a 25-45hz passband, with a bias towards the lower end of that (27-36hz). I gave him the majority of the back end of my jeep, up to seat level, for gross available enclosure volume and he used basically all of it. The internal volume is around 13 cubic feet! Before I had Pete design the enclosure, I sent the sub to him to extract accurate T/S parameters: Needless to say, many of the parameters vary substantially from the OEM specs. Theoretical frequency response and impedance profile at the driver's side headrest. More to come tomorrow!
  13. Yeah like UKnoitsMe and KMS said, look for similar producers. Jeezy uses Lil Lody a lot on newer stuff. Check out Showcase, some J.U.S.T.I.C.E. league stuff pounds, some of Ski Beatz newer stuff (Curren$y's albums for example), FATBOI, Metro (produces a lot of OJ da juiceman stuff) has some hella low tracks if you can get past the rappers on them ha, some Jazzie Pha, V12 The Hitman (love for money is still one of my favorite songs), Mouse, Niyo, a lot of Scott Storch stuff, B.J. (does a lot for lil boosie), Big Wayne, Southside, Schife, Big Korey, DJ Montay, to name a few haha definitely get everything by Drumma Boy Lex Luger and Zaytoven like was previously said
