Is there any word on a release date for these? Or an idea of when testing will be completed?

Ehh it'll work but I wouldn't recommend it. It's hard to get fiberglass to adhere properly to metal.

If its a small hole its worth it to patch the hole now before you are replacing panels due to rust. Just cut out a patch panel and weld it in place and go over it with some POR15
