Touche.  In terms of prog rock old DT was some of the best.  For hard rock with bass in my collection includes (hope this helps):

Tool, Clutch, Primus (and all of Les Claypool's variant bands), Pantera, Testament (Dark Roots of Earth is a good one).  

Looking forward to some more input.  What else are you digging on?

Nevermore. Not sure how bassy you want it to be, but damn they are a talented prog'ish band
