  1. 7v would be 7v fior each output. The E.Q. should have variable output. get a dd1 or a multimeter.this can get quite involved depending on the options your e.q. has but to try to keep it simple. lets say the e.q does indeed have 7v out and your amps have 5v in. find your max unclipped output on your headunit with all settings flat then find the max unclipped output of the e.q with all settings flat then check your amp speaker outs for distortion (with no bass boost ect.), if it clips at minimum gain (5v) with your h.u. and e.q. at max unclipped volume then bring the e.q. output level down till the distortion disappears. do the same for each amp. now i hope all your amps have the same gain min and max, if you have a amp with 7v in and one with 5v just go with the E.q. output that you set for the 5v amp or w/e it is. the lower of the bunch. you can read the instructions with the dd1 for more help. And there are too many factors to really get into here without knowing more about you H.U., e.q and what amps you have. this is the simplest/safest way i could see doing it though.
  2. You shouldn't boost frequencies with a EQ, only cut. To the OP, you won't get louder with a EQ, and i doubt you would want to spend money to get a decent one. I agree with only cutting levels, but sometimes a guy has to do what a guy has to do. ever so slightly boosting a level can be safe you just have to do as little as possible. In the interest not introducing distortion into the signal. The best solution is of course if you are lacking in a certain freq range get speakers that cover those ranges and add them to your system. not trying to sound argumentative here.
  3. are your current speaker wires running parallel to your power wires? if you aren't getting interference now then it shouldn't change with new wire. But i wouldn't ziptie those together, i would zip tie them separately. and try to keep the speaker wire separate from power the best you can. I'm not an expert but i would think you run a higher chance of interference trying to fish your speaker wires clear across and under the dash from the passenger to drivers side in the front. So in other words, power wires and front drivers side speaker wire on the drivers side, and the rest on passenger side. In my mind you are less likely to get interference through a speaker wire that a rca cable. You could always just leave lots of wire for that one run and mock it up, if it doesn't work just run it on the other side, if it does work cut off the excess wire and you're set.
  4. i'll pm you, don't want to drive this thread off course.
  5. lol, i have some of those toys, and a galaxy dx99v that ebay wont let me sell
  6. higher output voltage is nice as long as you can adjust it to match your amp. No use in 7v outs if your amp only takes 5v max.
  7. I would like to add that an EQ can be a mixed blessing. They are nice for boosting or cutting frequencies that need either, but you may find that you are constantly tweaking it for different recordings. Some artists just sound different than others and you really don't want to be tweaking it while driving. Just my experience. Also you may want to take someone with you while driving down the highway and have them adjust settings, because it may sound better one way with road noise and such than it does while just sitting in your driveway.
  8. I'm not going to recommend a brand so i don't start a vs. thread here but i will say running dual whips can be a pain in the arse. First thing is go buy an swr meter. Learn how to use it or ask and i can tell you. Second, ground the hell out of your antenna(s) bad grounds mean high swr which means you blow up your radio's transmitter. Most dual whip setups come with a "y" cable that should balance output to both antennas but i never trusted those things. My personal opinion, and this is just my opinion, is to get a good quality base loaded single whip. but they probably dont look as cool as dual whips.
  9. OLDER STUFF =-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Rear Speaker Pod Build Distance check My Youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/ecoots?feature=mhee
  10. Thanks, i'm on a super tight budget with a wife and two kids and you know that whole responsibility thing. Hopefully tomorrow i'll make up some pods for the rear speakers.
  11. Pics Go Here So here are some still of the work that went into the new door mounts for the front speakers. Old Rings and factory mounts comparison http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7199/6790969470_24104b777d_z.jpg Got the first one rough cut http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7192/6937095807_d3d366123f_z.jpg Let see how accurate i can cut two... O.k. Time to sand lol http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7200/6790982462_ddf16dc072_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7183/6790990342_824e841371_z.jpg That's Better! http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7059/6937114129_84b1d8a3e8_z.jpg That is an ugly hole! Put the screws in the mount holes and put nail polish on the screw heads to mark where to drill the board. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7207/6937118297_b4b5b3d2dc_z.jpg And just as easy as that. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7047/6791007722_604f0b3796_z.jpg Lets test fit to see if i got it right http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7176/6791010950_58c4f3b0f9_z.jpg And the door closes! Seems my cuts weren't that bad after all! http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7201/6937133111_e9f0c462af_z.jpg Prime those bisnatchses up! http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7204/6937137141_a4a052dcee_z.jpg Add a little paint... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7054/6791021914_54a871d9c6_z.jpg Do it again. Hate doing things twice and in reverse. Least i can say that i can do this stuff forwards and backwards. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7200/6937144105_55954cc276_z.jpg Nice, fits perfect, by the way the door panel is shaped like that, it angles down to the door jam. Weird. if you want to see more check the video! http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7054/6791029238_ae6ed77d67_z.jpg
  12. You can try this at your own risk, and i would like someone else to give their opinion on it first but, you could run a short ground wire from the ground side of the rca connector (outside part) on your camera to a good body ground. i've seen it on some old radios once or twice.
  13. 2-26-12 (New Speaker Mounts in Doors) 2-25-12 (Fosgate Symmetry EPX2 Install) 1-29-12 (Early Bass Demo)
  14. I wanted to add something, since you are going to use your ipod anyway as a music source then the Line out is the best way to go. This way you dont change volume levels by accident at the source and risk clipping. This way when you set you gains they are set with the same source level. like others have said if you must rip rip at the highest bit rate. You could even play your test tones on your ipod and use the line out with a headphone to rca cable and hook that cable between your ipod and our dd-1 to make sure it isnt clipping. if you get clipping then try the headphone out at a volume level that doesnt clip then never go above that volume level again after you hook it to your HU. Edit* I missed that you have a USB port on your HU, so just use that instead of line in.
  15. I would have to say 1. Electrical (even though i have a stock alt and two batteries) 2. Amps 3. HU 4. Subs 5. Mid/highs 6. Sound deadener 7. Gasoline 8. Food 9. Tires 10. New clutch That's seems about right doesn't it?
  16. I was having trouble with the code then i realized i copied an extra space on then end of the code. When i pasted then code in the coupon box, the space was there. evidently the coupon code box is very picky about the code. once i made sure the only thing in the box was "SMDDD1" (without quotes) it worked fine. Hope this helps!
