  1. my new build should be done by then. hopefully i can make it over there. so the number of woofers doesn't matter in the classes?
  2. I found a good deal on a chrysler 300, so I am going to be buying it next week. I've been thinking about the build and need some help. Everyone I talk to says it's best to fire the subs forward and seal them off. My question is, would I be better doing 2 10's forward firing or two 12's or even 15's facing the trunk? I kind of like the idea of being able to seal off the back of the box if i face them forward giving it a more factory look. But will 2 10's facing forward be close to as loud as 2 15's facing the hatch? The subs will be sundown sa series tuned to 28 hz aero ported by the way. Thanks! edit: will only be running them off an arc audio ks 1000.1bx for now. so only 500w per sub.
  3. Not to thread jack, but I previously had my system ground with a - wire front to back with no chassis ground. had just a tiny drop at idle. none while revving. Redid my wiring and now I just have my back battery and amp grounded to chassis. At idle I drop down to 12v at full tilt. drops to 13 while driving. Now I am going to have to rewire again lol. And I do have the paint sanded on a ground straight to the frame. I'm only running under 4k watts and i have a 270 amp alt, d3400, and shuriken bt80. So there shouldn't be any voltage drop at all. I agree that a wire front to back will do better in some setups.
  4. Welcome bro! I'm sure you will enjoy the forum. We have a lot of fun here!
  5. Nice! need to talk to my local police chief and get the exact laws in indiana! would be nice to know. I get pulled over all the time for it. and that's not even at stop lights.
  6. I think cone area is definitely king. I am actually working on my new build now. 6 obsidian 18's on 4,000 watts. Low power but it should still get very loud since the subs are being powered properly. I will post a vid to show you guys. but I know a guy with 6 american bass 10s. paid 70 a piece for the subs. and only running 3k watts in a 2 door jimmy and he is hitting mid 50's.
  7. LOL at paying 170 for a refurbished kicker. I know nobody is changing your mind, but for that price, you can get a brand new skar vvx 12 which will be louder with way better sound quality.
  8. Yes you will have to keep in front of the port a distance about equal to the width or the height of the port whichever is less. If you post your max dims for the box I could give you a suggestion. Will do. I was going to do that yesterday but totally forgot. I'll measure tonight after work. But I don't get off until 11 pm est. but I could definitely use the help. Don't want to have to build 2 of these huge boxes!
  9. Congrats! been a subscriber for a while. You're the guy who inspired me. keep doin what you're doin man!
  10. Also, I just thought of something, my port will be facing the hatch. And since the box will be so big, I'm sure the port will be very close to the back hatch. Am I going to have to tune my box higher because the back hatch will act like an external port? This is my first build with the port back against the hatch. thanks!
  11. Well I honestly plan on getting it done ASAP. will post up a bl as I'm workin on it.
  12. oh fuck !!!! You will have plenty of room from the b pillar. That's what I like to hear! I mean I'd like to keep the back seat, but 6 18's is just too bad ass to pass up. I'll get back to you guys tonight with the box design
  13. I had planned on taking the 2nd row out. ur telling me you have 20 cu ft behind the 2nd row? I read that wrong before. But ya I'm talking b-pillar back. Think I could squeeze in 30 cu ft? and still have room for my air tank for my train horn? lol
  14. i will measure tonight after work. I guess my new dream is to do 6 15's. lol. but hopefully we will figure something out.
  15. what year is the tahoe ? If it is a 03 style it will not fit behind the 2nd row. If its an older one ( box style ) it will fit. I have an 03 tahoe and building a 20cf box now and it is a squeeeeeeze. Nice name to you as well haha. but It's an 03. and JP has 10 18's in his 98 hoe. but I may have to go for 15's then. I will see what I can come up with. Lol. Jp has 10 18 squeeeeezed in his truck. Trust me , I am struggling to find a place to mount my 2 5k's because the 20 cf box takes up the entire cargo area. This was with 2 of the 18's I believe you. but can't look at the picture now. I'm at work for another 2 hrs and they have pics blocked. That's the bad thing about our body style tahoe. really isn't all that much room in there.
  16. what year is the tahoe ? If it is a 03 style it will not fit behind the 2nd row. If its an older one ( box style ) it will fit. 17. Well that's what I'm going for lol. But the AQ's definitely don't get all that low since they're tuned to 36 hz. But I just wanted to try a low setup tuned to around 30 that will do some hair tricks for demos. And it seems like this would definitely be my best option on the amp that I have.
  18. Well that's what I'm worried about. I haven't had the chance to measure up and design a box but I was planning on doing that tonight. If I can squeeze them in behind the b pillar with subs up, thats what I'd like to do. Should create a lot of pressure that way. But it will be tough to fit around 30 cu ft in the back.
  19. Well the reason I chose obsidian's is because I know they can move a LOT of air with a low amount of power. And the reason I chose 6 is because 6 600rms woofers would go perfect with my amp. I suppose I could do 6 15" behind the c pillar but I had planned on doing 6 18's behind the b pillar. I don't know much about 4th orders. That's why I wanted to try and do subs up/port back. It's just that I haven't seen many obsidian setups since they're a new company so I thought it would be cool to try a multi woofer setup with them.
  20. and if subs up/port back won't fit, I'll have to do a 4th order. Either way, just looking to move a lot of air. The AQ's just aren't cutting it.
  21. I've been thinking long and hard and I think I'm going to sell my AQ's and put 6 obsidian 18's in my tahoe subs up/port back. I will run them off my crescendo 3500 at .66 ohms. You guys think I can get loud even though it's only 4k watts? I know that's not much but I would almost have to hit a 152 or higher with 6 18's. What do you guys think? *Edit* If my port ends up being close to the rear hatch, will I need to tune the box higher? I was thinking that if the hatch acts like another port, it would lower the tuning. Is this correct?
  22. I use microsoft security essentials and hitman pro. it has a 30 day free trial. but after the trial is up, delete it and reinstall. works every time.
