  1. ummmmmm ok how are large files going to cause the external to crash? seeing as an external hard drive is the same thing as a regular internal hard drive...the only thing that makes it external is the case. external hard drives are just as reliable as internals, although i have seen a few external hard drive enclosures go bad, but the disk is still fine. For the most part speed of the drive is going to rely on the buffer and the rpm , most drives will run at 7200rpm and most bigger drives have a 16mb buffer.. aslong as your using USB 2.0 it will be plenty fast, firewire would be even better...
  2. do you hear any clicking or anything weird? What kind of hard drive is it? you can download various hard drive tests from each manufacturer(like seatools for seagate) you could try a program called dft http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
  3. well from the pics, it looks like it will only be a tight fit toward the bottom where it rubs on your carpet....you could just not coat that area where it rubs with the texture and leave it black....i dont think it will be noticeable.. i also dont think a few mills of paint is going to cause any huge issues with clearance..
  4. thats some impressive photoshop work! Have you tried visiting local shops? thats the first thing i would do just to get a feel of what i like on my car because most shops will let you put the rim right next to you car so you can get an idea of how it will look on your car.
  5. id start off by using something like sanding sealer as a first coat or two because mdf is like a big sponge for paint.... after that do a coat or two of black and then do 2-3 coats of the fleck stone. for a box that size i would buy 3 cans.

    Hifonics ?

the bxi2006d is a great budget amp (which is why alot of people run them). Although your not going to see rated power from it, it will do a great job powering that pioneer sub, i used to have the older version of it a while back. Ive installed a a bxi2006d in a friends navigator that treats his stuff like total crap and it is still working fine after all this time. What smells like its constantly burning, the amp or the sub? i wouldnt be surprised if your amp is going into some serious clipping and causing your sub to overheat. So set your gains properly, start with a DMM.
  7. im pretty sure he used the bedliner on the hoopty, the civic and chickens towers... but he used the fleck stone stuff from home depot on his box for the tahoe
  8. I believe he used rustoleum spray paint that was textured, he got it from home depot. I saw it at home depot the other day going for about 10 bucks a can
  9. for the most part i would recommend anything made by directed, ive installed a few of them and have had great luck. Also if you ever have an issue with a remote or relay, or anything along those lines you could just stop by almost any local stereo shop or even best buy or circuit city to pick up a replacement.
  10. thanks for all the comments guys, I dont have a digital camera or anything that would be able to take a decent video. I will try to get one of my friends to help me out again and have him film me playing some jeezy or some slowed phil collins
  11. It sounds pretty good to me, i can turn it up and be loud or i can turn it down and focus on the tonality and staging of my speakers...its fairly responsive and i like it.
  12. I installed one of those on my dads 05 camry and its been great, basically the same as the 791xv and pretty much any other directed in the area like the clifford rsx 3.5 and what not. Great alarm, I havent had any issues with the remotes going bad..
