  5. Introduction: I have purchased a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe and would like to lay out a plan as to how I am going to upgrade it. I plan to make two main changes, those being: blacked out interior/exterior and a high quality audio system. This topic is going to focus around upgrading the audio aspect of the Tahoe. I wanted to gather advice from more experienced users in car audio before getting started so that I could create an effective and efficient plan as to how I am going to upgrade the audio in my new vehicle. Vehicle Information: The vehicle I am going to be working on is a brand new 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe LT with four wheel drive. As far as audio related components are concerned, this particular trim comes with the upgraded Bose nine speaker surround sound system. The stereo that comes with this Tahoe is quite average and is not of exceedingly high quality. The Tahoe also has plenty of space to install a subwoofer(s), so space is not going to be a problem. Initial Plan: My initial plan for the audio system in this vehicle is to keep the Bose nine speaker surround system (I know these may not be of the highest quality, but replacing all of those speakers would be quite expensive and I don't think I could justify the money spent), upgrade the stock stereo (looking for a stereo that is a bit more advanced), and install and subwoofer or two. While I do have a base plan established, I still have many questions as to how I should approach these upgrades. For those who are interested my budget is anywhere from $1000 - $2000 for just the new audio system. Specifics: Music is very important to me and because of the amount of time I put into listening to music and organizing it, I have become quite the audiophile. I listen to a lot of older music, mostly rock, metal, blues, folk, and other genres similar to those. One of my main question's is what audio equipment I should get if I am listening to music like I have listed above. This primarily relates to the subwoofer, as it seems to be the piece of hardware that will greatly effect the sound of my music. I heard that 10" subwoofers are best for rock music, so my plan was to buy two 10" subwoofers and put them in a sealed enclosure so that I would produce more of a accurate and clean bass sound. Please remember that I am aiming for sound quality, volume is also important, but I am much more focused on putting together a system that is based around sound quality. Is two 10" subwoofers too much bass for sound quality setups? Should I only go with one 10" subwoofer? I also need more information as to what brand subwoofer, subwoofer enclosure, and amplifer I should get. I heard JL Audio is quite good, but I am not that familiar with car audio so I need some more feedback. As far as upgrading the stereo, I just want one that functions well and will work with my iPod that has lossless audio files (FLAC and ALAC) loaded onto it. I believe that encompasses most of what I want to do to the Tahoe as far as the audio system in concerned. All help is appreciated and sorry if I make stupid mistakes, I am quite inexperienced when it comes to car audio. Thanks For Reading
  6. I have two amps in my car. one powers the door speakers (400 amp rms - rockford fosgate amp) and other power 12in subwoofer (750 amp rms - rockford fosgate amp). Both the amp is getting power through 4 gauge wire and grounded with 4 gauge wire. The door speakers work great, but the subwoofer hardly moves. I tried two different head units (stock & after market) and yet the sub hardly moves. The after market HU came with dedicated subwoofer output, while with the stock HU, i had to splice into front speakers wires to get signal for subwoofer. In both cases, the sub was weak with gain all the way high. The sub is getting signal, but its not moving the way a 12in should move. It only starts to move properly when i increase the bass boost & punch eq (i know this is not good). I went through some trouble shooting - making sure ground is securely attached, power etc etc. Yet, still can't figure out what is happening. I took it to a stereo shop and he agreed to diagnose for $65. But i've always had issues taking my car to shops and i'm wary of taking the car to the shop. What do you guys think is happening? Is there any one in chicago who might be able to take a look and help me out !!! Thanks,
  7. Recently I have noticed that my Cadillac will play static out of my front left speaker and will play music out of the speakers in the back when I listen to the radio. The static also continues for a few seconds even after the stereo is turned off and no music is being played. Everything is completely stock and nothing has ever been messed with. A little bit ago the stereo fuse blew in the back of the car and I replaced it. Could this have something to do with it? If anyone could help me with this problem it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  8. I have had my Kenwood 450/4 amp for a while now and have been running it for about a year. It was fine at first but it started getting hot probably about 4 months after I had it. I looked around and realized the cooling fan wasn't turning. I doubt the amp is under warranty and I bought it secondhand anyways. I would rather fix the fan myself but I don't really know where to start? Is it possible that it could be something else besides the fan itself, is it very likely? I did a quick google search on the specs of the amp and tried to see if there was any kind of dimensions for the fan but I found nothing. I am fairly new to car audio and have never taken an amp apart. If anyone could help me or point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. I am afraid if I don't get the fan fixed soon I will have problems with the amp in the near future.

  12. I need some expert advice. I built this custom center console from 1/2" birch plywood, using filler where needed. I routed all of the inside and outside edges to prep it for laying fiberglass cloth over it as I've seen many people do to dashboards and speaker enclosures on youtube. I used an epoxy resin as a first coat on the wood so it wouldn't start soaking up all the resin when I went to lay down my cloth. But now it looks pretty good and I'm wondering if I should go the extra mile and put cloth on it and a couple more layers of resin to smooth it out and THEN paint or just sand, primer and paint over what is there right now? I'd love some opinions on this. Is there an advantage or disadvantage to going either way. I'm concerned about the wood warping over time from humidity and such if I don't put cloth on it. Your thoughts are much appreciated! Photos attached ?
  13. I just got a 2010 Ford Focus SEL. wasn't my first choice but my grandpa didn't need it anymore and so i got it now. But anyways i need to put a new head unit in it for my subs and amp. i've found dash install kits. is that the best way to do it? i've never messed with this kind of car. the stock radio is displayed on the top of the dash so i don't know how this will effect my new head unit. any help is appreciated !
  14. I have a oscope I am wanting to sell. It is an OTC3840F. I took this in on a trade when it was BNIB. I took it out of the box, charged it up, and played with it for a couple hours. After playing with it, I decided that I didn't need it and would probably never use it. This is not a Cheap Oscope!! Money talks, but I am open to possible trades audio or not. Preferably Sundown products, but throw anything out there. Here is a link for the item to show it's specs --> http://www.thetoolwa...-otc-3840f.aspx
