bass_addict07
so im thinking its cuz im not using a vise but when i feed the solder into the terminal it doesn't start to puddle at the top and it starts to run down into the wire and melt the jacket. so why is this happening? because im not using a vise? bumonskateboard6
You gotta move the heat around I usually start heat at the top and move it to the bottom then cool the bottom and fill to the top. Freshman6969
it happens, you just gotta get the hang of it really, i did a wire the power wire in my car with pliers and 2 batterys stacked on top of eachother and the pliers between them, like bum said, you gotta move the heat around, cuz if you keep direct heat on it its just gunna melt the jacket Quote Legal TL scores145.6 on the dash sealed up in the low 40hz area with the port out145.5 on the dash sealed up @30hz with the port inless then 1k clamped on a 3.5k! El1T3Bass
ive never used a vice... make sure to heat the whole terminal and dont push a foot of solder in the terminal at a time. push in alittle, and keep doing that till its filled Quote wow now this just shows that smd isnt just any forum. EclipseChris
What i do, is heat the terminal, not the wire. Then touch the solder to the terminal all around the opening. This is one of the best jobs i have ever done. Quote i resolve to be a nicer moderator. Tercel build R.I.P. Eclipse build Old New V-Dub My feedback. TheBetterMethod
^That is beautiful. Like they said, it's about heat and not using to much of it. You have to wick solder into the wire then let it cool enough to form a little plug so that the next push of solder will go on top of it rather than just filling up the whole cable. It takes a little practice before anyone is a pro at it. And that was the day that i spent about 5 straight hours just cutting wire and practicing terminals. Wasted like $25 that day, but i think it was worth the experience. Practice practice practice. TheBetterMethod
Haha, well I still think it looks great. I'd practice more, but terminals are too expensive to waste.
