AMI CUSTOMS
JL is for the name, main reason I have it in my evo X. It is a car I take to car shows, everybody knows JL Audio, gets me more points, plus got all the stuff for below cost, would I buy JL at retail prices? Hell no. Southnash
asking... Not so much THD but more the Damping... some amps have over 1000+ & the one has less than 150.. This directly controls the subwoofer...better damping more SPL? If the signal is clean, unclipped, power is power, not gonna make a difference. for the most part yes.. but would MORE control help? Ya'll are the SPL competitor gurus... "Damping factor describes the ability of the amplifier to control unintended movement of the speaker cone near the resonant frequency of the driver. Other things being equal, a high damping factor indicates that an amplifier will have greater control over the movement of the driver cone, particularly in the bass region near the resonant frequency of the driver." J.Reed
Build quality, great, to the right person they sound incredible... I can name several sets that I like better...in all honesty, build quality isnt what sells JLs speakers at all. name recognition does.people think they sound incredible because they have a big price tag. anyhow back on topic, im sure these AQ amps are going to sell like hotcakesthe name helps but the product is built strong.. What other name brand that you can buy in a store compares? Not for SPL comps, but everyday, average joe overdriving them like crazy? RF, Kicker, are ok..memphis a little better... Hertz was the closet thing.. (amps & subs)working at a JL retailer for 5yrs, I NEVER had one come apart...burnt coils & torn foam surrounds from older subs & 2 W6v2's... I have a kicker zx1000.1 right here next to me on the floor. 2 actually. Is it in my suv? Nope. It's quality is not as good as the AQ IMO. even have a mcd1000.1 setting here. Is it in my ride?.. Nope not there either. Like I said before. Try it then you can talk about it not being this or that.

Maybe if you were at your resonant freq but I am 20 hz away from my woofers resonant so how is damping gonna help me there? It won't.
