Ok guys i jst got an old amp of mine workin and hooked up in a very temporary setup while i test the voltage against my terribly small alt.

Well the alt seems to be doing ok staying above 14 most of the time and rarely dipping into the 13 range, so its time to rebuild im thinking.

Now i have a single 12" kicker L7. This amp im running it off is around the 500w mark so im good with that seeing its about 5 times what i have been running it off.

Question is what type if box do i go for! Im comfortable attempting any kind of box, but a good bandwidth and plenty off volume across that would be great.

Does anyone think a bandpass would be pointless for a single 12?!

Peace out guys i look foreward to hearing what you have to say. And do not tell me 2 get this or that because if i could afford better i would have it!! Lol

It's not pointless. Bandpasses are very efficient so with little power it kinda works in your favor.

I would try it, make th sealed chamber kinda big ( get you louder off of less power ), somewhere like 3ish cubes, and maybe do a 2.5:1 ratio. So 7.5 ported. Should give you a decent bandwidth and flat response. Port around 47 hz with 70 - 140 square inches of port.

Thanks for the advice, ill see what kind of design i can come up with in my limited space. That was my only worry when asking weather a bandpass was a good idea or not, I have a tiny trunk in my tiny hatchback lol.

As for the 47 Hz tuning. Why so high? I'm not questioning your logic I'd just love to know the reason for this. Probably something I don't understand about bandpass boxes!!

If you don't understand the tuning you probably shouldn't design it.

Tuning is different on bandpasses

BP´s peak around tuning frequency when they have a mid size or a kind of small sealed chamber, if you use a big ass sealed chamber it would get louder with small power since it gets more efficient, but at the same time, it would give you a better output on lows, so in other words, a big sealed chamber allows you to tune the front chamber high and still play the lows very nice!!

Dwright can correct me if i´m wrong...
