I didn't think the older explorers had a "premium" system.. I thought the only audio option was a CD changer. Could be wrong

Well thats what i thought but sonicelectronic gives you three options what your car is for my 97 EXPLORER... Explorer without premium system, Explorer with premium, and explorer JBL system

if your car has the JBL system, it will say JBL somewhere. if you had the premium system, it should say Premium somewhere on the car. either on the speaker grille's, the headunit, somewhere.

I may be wrong but the premium system would have a factory amp wouldnt it?

if it is like my experiences... if it is premium it will have more speakers than the standard, for example, tweets somewhere. If it is jbl It might have a factory amp. Best bet is to google it for specifics.

I tried to google it nothing but bull shit.. and nothing it says on the speakers headunit or anywhere. I know the XLT is the "Upgraded" explorers from the regular but it has only a 6 CD changer nothing else special. only 4 speakers

rusty is right, generally upgraded factory sound systems will have, for example, tweeters in the sail panels.

i belive with no sub in the back it is not the premium system. JBL system says it on the deck i belive sounds like you have the non premium system.
